Move to the northwest territories or alaska and do that.

You will find, like my friends who have tried this (one in alaska, another was Amish and didn't got the the store for food for 3 years, trying to grow all their food on their own).

The alaska guy gave up. Too hard, too expensive, too lonely.

The amish family gave up not shopping for food. To this day, he says half-joking, he drops to his knees and thanks the Lord Almighty for large supermarket chain stores.

If you live in the US, very little effort, relative to the reward, is expended to get food compared to any time in the history of the world.

Sorry, but like the bible says, if you don't work you die.

All depends on what you are worth.
Worth depends on your skills and what you bring to the table, how much $$$ they can make with you.
If you don't know shit, you will be treated like shit.

I know lots of people who run businesses, and if you have skills, know your shit, and work efficiently, you make them big $$$ and they will hold on to you for dear life.

If you are a whiny alcoholic with no skills, you are worthless to them.

jobs in the US aren't even about work ethic, it's all about crazy workplace politics, the hot girls all sleep with their bosses, the biggest, dumbest bully gets promoted because he can beat you up, or the gay dudes get promoted by their gay bosses, or you are some precious special class with lots of melanin, so the ditzy college educated managers promote you.

It's not about being a hard worker, it's about how well you fit into the snake pit.

If you ARE a hardworker, the midlevel management almost hates you because all they do is fuck around all day and laugh at you behind your back, while they have sex in the breakroom and snort coke.

Just hang tight it will really get bad really soon and we will all be in the same boat.

Re: I'm 34 and jobless. I am deeply resentful towards the so called 'work ethic'. Here's why...
Here's why I feel so deeply resentful towards the system, that I am as deeply reluctant to serve it:

First off, it is so stressful and monotonous competing with hundreds / thousands of other wannabe slaves, that you are forced to constantly upgrade skills and sell yourself more (beg harder). It is degrading to beg to be someone else' slave.

Second, if you manage to get an interview, you are heavily interrogated.

Third, if you make it through the interrogation procedure they now own you and they can talk to you like shit and force you to slave away as hard as they like. Not so? Disobey your boss or argue back, you will find yourself penniless and homeless in no time.

Fourth, you are forced to work with people who may be absolute assholes and there's no escape.

Fifth, you take the stress of a job home with you and your mind is swamped with work schedules. so you cannot truly relax - ever.

Sixth, all of your freedoms are removed from the moment you leave school to the moment you retire. You are forced to work 8 hours per day - Monday to Friday - until your youth has gone forever. In fact, your freedoms are removed as soon as you start school.

Seventh, you are deceived into thinking that you are entitled to two days of freedom, but you are so stressed from the previous 5 days of slavery you just want to sleep in on Saturday. Then you spend Saturday night getting drunk to blot out your miserable existence. Sunday is spent sleeping in and feeling like shit from a hangover.

Eighth, constant toiling away and being handed heavy schedules age you prematurely, not to mention stressing the immune system.

Ninth, you cannot live a self sufficient lifestyle legally independent of the system because if you build a log cabin anywhere, so you can fish / hunt or grow crops for food, the system's henchmen will destroy your home and imprison you.

Tenth, you are a tax generating automaton who exists to swell the moneyboxes of the elite.

There you have it -- the big pink elephant is not staring you in the face from the far corner of the room, it is sitting on you and crushing you with it's enormous weight, yet the world is in collective denial over this very obvious fact. Why? Because slavery is all they understand.

That's why I hate the system and refuse to serve it.

The reason why you are unhappy is because your life is fulfilling. You have no role in the usual mundane workforce, but that doesn't mean the workforce is inherently bad for everyone else.

Find something and become a master at it. If it's the whole farming, fishing, homemaking ordeal you're after, there are plenty of colleges, communes, and organizations whose lives revolve around those very things. If you prove yourself worthy, they will take you in and show you their trade.

OP is correct. Food, housing and water should not involve any financial system. You are NOT free if they do.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 9247375

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 34871329

So strike out as a homeless person. You can sleep under a bridge for shelter, eat from a dumpster and drink the rain water.

You could move to Alaska or the Yukon and just live in the woods eating berries and living in a thatched hut.

Problem with either of these scenarios is that you still have to work to get your food, water and shelter. But hey, it least you'd be free, right?

I've never read a thread with so much pathetic whining as I have in this one. It's a sign of why the world is turning to pure shit.

As a fan of language I enjoyed the visual:
"You are a tax generating automaton who exists to swell the moneyboxes of the elite."

All joking aside, the only solution I can offer is work a shit job for the sole purpose of underwriting a hobby or two that you really enjoy. Be it drinking, photography, or just sleeping all day and ordering a pizza. Anything will do.

And yes, you are correct sir.

Sorry, but like the bible says, if you don't work you die.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 29726503

The bible was written in a time when people were more tribal and before soulless corporations, technology, outsourcing, massive bureaucracy etc...was established. I don't think the OP is against "work". Making your own log cabin is "work". Growing your own food is "work". He simply hates what the system has become and whether you want to believe it or not, most people aren't free. They are slaves. The are slaves to their paychecks. They are debt slaves. They are owned by banks. Most home owners are under the illusion they own their home. Chances are a bank owns it. Even if one finally pays the bank off after a couple of decades, you have to pay property tax.

Pioneers chopped down trees and made log cabins. It probably took a few weeks before it was finished. After that, they had a home. People today have to work 20+ years to finally pay a bank off for their home. Face it, many people are slaves to Federal Reserve notes.
