At least two collisions were reported as a result of the sink hole, according to the state Department of Public Safety. While Arizona 89 is open to Arizona 89A, officials recommend drivers heading to Page take U.S. 160 east 15 miles, then take Arizona 98. Source: [link to www.azcentral.com] |

TastyThoughts User ID: 1308649 United States 02/20/2013 01:24 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Drought? Ground water table reduced causing collapse? I do recall in Outlaw, Az there was/is a tunnel that crosses the border. It was in some special on 20/20, 60 minutes, or the like many years ago. I think they had the youngest mayor at the time too. "They cannot see what's-up if They are looking down." (TastyThoughts) "Something is smelly! Something is smelly, like an old barnacle encrusted shoe washing ashore in the middle of summer." (TastyThoughts) "Yes happy Earth day. Now go tell the wicked to stop damaging the Human Species therefore/and the Earth; For, they are discombobulating the entire Universe and upsetting the Most High God." (TastyThoughts) |

Tuba City AZ Resident User ID: 34834879 United States 02/20/2013 05:29 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | WOW so many guesses and very little facts. So here goes back on Jan 7, 2013 we had an earthquake 3.1 very close to this area of the road collapse, before the 3.1 quake we had a number of quakes in the same area that were under 2.0 for close to 2 weeks give or take a few days. Since the 3.1 nothing has even given a blip till today. As for weather this storm so far up here as been not much of a big deal we had about 2 inches of snow this morning and it was all gone by lunch time, thats common for this area at this time of year. This road was just repaved last year and it was one of the better roads around here, and the best way to get from Flagstaff to Page. I will add that last week we did get some rain and they could have got a bit more up that way. The key thing about this part of the road was its on a very old landslide or collapse of the cliff side, and by old I mean a few thousand years, but you can see weather over the years just added more dirt and rocks to the area and they just plowed across this area 50 years ago or so and laid blacktop. The point is we dont get a lot of rain here and technical this would or should not have been an issue ever, but from what I have heard and seen in pics so far its going to be a major problem. I will be going up there Friday or Sat to see whats up with it, but this road will be closed for a number of weeks or months. |
