OP, while I did not make a demand, I made a heart-felt request on behalf of those young fishermen. I myself am a sailor and I feel the pain of the relatives of those men. This is what I have put in an email to Mr. Butler....

Dear Mr. Butler,

With the greatest of respect, I am moved to write to you because of the decision the Coast Guard has taken with regards to stopping the search for the five missing Nova Scotia fishermen. As a sailor myself I ask you to please reconsider the decision the Canadian Coast Guard has taken in this matter.

Since when do we Canadians give up on our own? Since when do we look at the value of dollars rather than human life? We sent our men and women over seas during the second world war to help and protect people thousands of miles away. We knew nothing about them or their lives but we sacrificed our own for their benefit and safety. Why is it that we can turn a blind eye to our very own who are in danger of losing their lives?

Please consider carefully my words. I have always been a very proud Canadian with the knowledge that we Canadians are a strong, hardy, patriotic people and that we care deeply for our country and our fellow Canadians.

If we cannot show support for our own at this time, then we are not the resilient caring people the world sees us as and at present I have to hang my head in shame..... I ask that you please continue to search for our men who are lost at sea fighting for their lives.
