Windows 8 has serious usability issues.
Well it has hasn't it? Every time I use it to try and do any serious work, I get a headache after half-an-hour. It's like playing a game that you hate. Dodge the metro.

Windows 8 has usability issues.

What is this forum anyway? I found it by Googling "Windows 8 and Dog Shit" and it brought me here. Well done!

It's like you can do stuff for free here, such as say rude words, troll and do it all anonymously. It's quite liberating, especially after using Window!

Welcome Sweden !

"Windows 8 has serious usability issues." is a typically polite Scandinavian way of putting it.

Others here will be more explicit lol.

Not really. It is jus very different. Mobile phone like "Metro Sexual" interface ha ha. I hated it that much I just googled how to remove it and now it runs just like (or I could say better) than Win7 with a slightly diferent colour scheme. I like it know the metro shit is gone

Ditto that. From a user perspective, every upgrade seems to simply be rearranging the layout and changing the appearance. Every command now requires an inordinate effort to locate.

Windows 8 sucks bad.

Make your move to Linux. It has a short learning curve. Try Ubuntu or Mint. Bodhi is neat, too.

I'm on a month old desktop. WhenI brought it home I didn't even take the time to look at the Windows 8 screen. I just stuck in an Ubuntu disc.

As for GLP you have stumbled upon the rabbit hole. Your path to truth and enlightenment begins now. Or possibly stupidity and ignorance, but that is up to you my friend.

yes Windows 8 "Metro" Sexual interface does. It occurred to me this "stunt" was nothing more than a lame attempt by Microsh*t to sell there emerging tablet technologies and boost the already severely beaten Microsh*t Mobile phone OS. All in an attempt to unify the Microsh*t PC/Laptop, Tablet and Mobile phone technologies under the "false flag" of convenience, simplification and ease of use.

Windows 8 minus the Metro is just a good version of Win 7 with all the patches/service packs installed.

Install ClassicStartMenu, and have it drop you on the desktop completely skipping metro. Replace the fullscreen metro apps like the PDF viewer with other free software. After doing that you'll almost never have to see metro.

I think the changes were dumb, but considering that Windows 8 is so much cheaper than previous versions of Windows it makes sense to buy it if you need to buy a Windows OS.

It is also quicker than 7 and the new file copy/move dialog-progress window is fantastic.

I would say that generally the opposite is true. Sure, the software you know about doesn't work with Linux, but there are currently about 60,000 pieces of software for Linux that can do anything that can be done with Windows and a whole lot more. Instead of Microsoft Office you have Open Office or Libre Office, or Abiword, or any imaginable variation and flavor you could ever concieve of. It's all free.

I've really only had one instance where Linux held me backfrom being able to accomplish something. On the other hand I have thousands of free apps and programs at my fingertips to help me. Any imaginable torrent. Any ripper, any audio/video/web developing tool you could imagine.

I'm not saying Linux is perfect. It isn't. There is a learning curve and the inexperienced definitely has to avoid certain Linux OS's. Stick with Ubuntu, Mint, OpenSuse, and a couple of others until you feel comfortable with using the command line, and with using tar balls, and the like. It's a different world, a world where you start getting comfortable digging around in ex. files and config. files and where you begin to modify them. A world where so long as you back up your files you treat your OS like a stolen hot rod car and if you blow it up you just reinstall and a half hour later you're off and going again like nothing ever happened. A world where you laugh when people talk about viruses and trojans.

Win8 was designed for tablets, etc...

Tis a POS as a desktop, and will go down as the ME of this decade...

Can't wait to see what WIN9 will bring by the end of the year!

Re: Windows 8 has serious usability issues.
yeah, I just got a new WIN 8 PC and at first the Aps/metro was fun ... but it soon became apparent that they interfered with everything ...

take Netflix ... when I use the apt it loads up fast, but I don't get the complete website ... when I go in through the website, I get the full scope of what they have to offer and the movies download much faster ... my connection is to a satellite so I rarely can watch a full movie without some "buffering" - but there is twice as much when I use the Aps

so I turned OFF almost all the aps and uninstalled them as well- because they actually CRASHED a PC that was less than a month old -

I hate the "charms" they just make getting into your computer stuff all that much more difficult but I love having my "files" on my task bar

I hated Win 7 - going directly to it from XP screwed up my entire computer ... nothing was compatible, had to get rid of my scanner, a hundred downloads before it worked right

I loved XP ... and I like Win 8 now that I got rid of the complex fluff ... the 2nd Gen i5 processor in this new Dell PC is fast- even on the satilite link (you almost forget you have it) ... I am happy with it so far ... but I am having my doubts about this DELL ... it shouldn't have crashed because of the Aps ... and they were causing a noticeable slow-down in all the computers processes
McAfee is soooooo anoying why don't they dump them and get something like Panda - NONintrusive or are they all that way now ... I want a security system to ONLY report events not advertizements - why is that not a "pop up" ?

I use Fire Fox ... it is annoying that we get drug into these cyber wars ... now msn is dumping their IM - and letting Skype have the privilege of spying on not only our chats, but our phone calls ... ergg - I trust forum chatrooms far more than Skype ...

So let me get this straight... You expect people to buy Win 8 only to turn off the "moran" ahem.. METRO interface just to to have an OS that may or may not be a "little quicker on some things" than Win 7...

Same old shit different packaging (like most products these days) and WTF is with the "charms bar" replacing the good old Start menu?

If you want a REAL OS, use any Linux distro.. Even Apple had some sense to base their OS on Unix, hencee the "X" in OS X.

Innovation on MS part has gone down the drain... not unlike the products coming out of the auto industry... they dress up the same old shit with new bells and whistles that only fool sheeple...

Windows is a pane. But W8 is better than W7 IMO. There seem to be problems with Adobe Flash on W8. I've gotten a blue screen (it's less ugly than before but still represents a crashed OS) more than once while playing youtube videos.

All operating systems suck.

Windows 8 - obvious shit

OS X - locked into Apple crap and can't customize anything

Linux - need to do 20 things for a simple operation

I'm sticking with Windows 7 until there is a real NEXT GEN operating system out, probably in a decade. And I hope the world doesn't change to mobile-only devices since tablets suck too!

Re: Windows 8 has serious usability issues.
Been a Win guy since 3.0 and DOS even further back. Hate Mac's with a passion, and with that same passion - love Ubuntu (way more than Mint - but I'm a few distros since use).

Why, mainly I'm a gamer and need DX11 - but with the current move of Steam to Linux - and Gabe and the Warcraft guy in an all-out war against 8....this shall be interesting.

Win8 sucks sweaty balls on a sweltering day in a car that hasn't been cooled down yet. I wanted to throw my Uncle's lappy off the wall after 20 minutes. It was Metro, it was the taking away the powers that were mostly preserved from DOS all the way through 7. That is where Linux shines (as an above poster pointed out).....yes, there is a relatively STEEP learning curve to truly understand it.

I'm a dude who overclocks, and builds his own custom water cooled systems...and for you old folks, learned on a 486 DX25 initially - where my Dad refused to buy my brother and I a Sega Genesis....he foresaw the future and said..."You wanna game - you will learn this, because you can do that and much more with this." That was 92. He died in 99. God was he right. My brother and I learned config.sys and autoexec.bat tweaks that took that old 486 years to kill. It was outdated in 6 months, and as he was deathly ill - some of my fondest memories were going to computer shows with him and my brother and siphoning money (all 3 of us)...to get a new CPU, more RAM, a CD ROM (oh the balls on us!)...just so we could play Doom, Commander Keen - and of course, Duke Nukem!

By Xcom and Scorched Earth, my editing and configuring skills kicked in. By college, I was editing videos downloaded (years before Youtube) of the original Darth Vader fight with Obi with VERY primitive software. Now, I can do anything my imagination thinks (I have a SICK Bond video that took me 2 weeks - studio quality sorta!)..

point is..8 will be no different. I haven't delved into it beyond the frustrating time at my Uncle's. I know change is tough, and I believe 7 superior for a guy like me. And make no mistake...MS doesn't want 8 tweaked, these are outside dudes making it more like 7 for dudes like me (and like the above posters by the sounds of it). It will get better with more community input (like Linux)...and yes - give MS credit - they are still much more open than Apple (but NOT going in the proper directing like Linux is). The Enterprise will not adopt it as is..they can't afford it in this economy - look how much money it takes for an employee to get daft in Win 7 (from XP like an above poster said)...companies aren't going to pay for that shit...nor do they have the patience.)

I foresee a patch that will allow complete elimination of the Metro interface - and will basically bring it back to 7 with all the new good things of 8. Native MS mind you..so that they WON'T have to rely on outside tweakers...we still might be a year away from that SP - when investors start shitting their pants.

They will learn their lesson (see Windows ME *which I LOVED - while all hated)...and Windows Vista *which was ok once you turned of UAC and all that other shit))..They have stretched themselves too thin...focus on what you know - and DO IT WELL!

That being said, don't be afraid of Linux. go to a REAL bookstore and get yourself an Ubuntu book (like I did)...LEARN IT...try it. My honest advice (against what most Linux fans will post)..experiment on a dedicated system before trying to a.)dual boot or b.)put your brand new machine on it....why?? Most Linuxes will use GRUB as your Boot program (held on the ROM of the motherboard)...well, if you drop a drink on your main rig and have to swap out ALL hardware minus the hard drive that was not affected...the motherboards don't recognize all the new hardware....ok, go to main install disk...that would normally work - but GRUB has SO fucked up that portion of a.)the hard disk and b.)the ROM holding boot parameters...that I will need to entirely wipe the disk on another system, flash the ROM and lose all my games (which is fine, pain in the ass like no lube special -- but fine....all my real media (video, audio and of course photos of kids - are separately held on an external drive - and double backed up on another non-connected drive entirely - as ALL people should do *and no, the "cloud" is not your friend"))) (three of ))) fine?)

So if you go Linux on a dedicated old computer, it will allow you to experiment without fucking anything up...plus, they allow the cold boot from a USB or a CD (who uses that shit - I had to plug an old drive that wasn't even SATA on to use the install disc *had a couple drinks..can't remember connection name it's been so long)...once learned...my honest advice is to go full on or nothing - don't do dual boot as it has seriously fucked my main rig (on the market new with all new hardware $4K plus....it's a little dated now...but I can still run all new games full on *minus I effed my 5850 dammit!))

If you go eight, use the outside tweaks for now, knowing MS will eventually cave to market demand (*see Maker's Mark story last couple weeks, hell I'd pay MORE for a version *as alluded by an above poster* that behaved more like 7 *where you can tweak*). Also know, like Vista and ME - Win 9 will be like Win 7 was or XP was to ME and Vista respectively....they DO learn.

For all God's hope and sanity....don't go iOS...see security breach today with Apple. They are NOT infallible, they are NOT easier to use. They ARE less tweakable. You will have to suck Steve Job's dead dick and THAT will never change. You WILL pay 1.5 times or more for the same hardware just to have that gay little apple that has a bite out of it with SOOOOO many satanic influences....and YES, you'd be a tool! How do I really feel..

As quoted above: "From freedom comes elegance" This is no joke, this is the mantra. yoda
