Found one website that wasn't pushing meds:

[link to www.home-remedies-for-you.com]

Garlic and ginger are among the most potent and effective of herbal remedies. Chewing on a clove of garlic or on some pieces of freshly cut ginger can help provide relief from your sinus condition.

Elderberry, thyme and peppermint are just a few other useful herbal remedies for sinus congestion.

Herbal teas like anise, fenugreek or sage can also help relieve your symptoms so try to have at least one cup daily.

Aroma therapy and steam inhalation are regarded as the most effective natural remedies for sinus congestion and provide instant relief. You can either do a simple steam inhalation or you can add a few drops of peppermint oil or eucalyptus oil to the basin of water that you are using for the steam inhalation.

Light exercise can also help significantly as the release of adrenalin results in a constriction of blood vessels, which can cause a reduction of swelling in the sinus.

You can also apply a hot compress or warm cloth or towel to your face, over the eyes and cheekbones to help relieve the symptoms.

Re: What to do for nasal/sinus congestion?
Any cold or flu becomes pneumonia (for me)

if it goes untreated.

All I gotta do is use a Neti pot

I use one 3 times daily.

Here is a link on how to use one...
[link to yoga108.org]

Oh... your nose is sensitive... dont use too much salt... or water thats too hot! be careful not to scald your nose!!! be extra careful!

But it works for me and reduces cold durations

Also Apple Cider vinegar

1 ounce in 10 ounces of water... dont drink it strait down... it might eat your stomach up...

but the water safely dilutes it so it doesnt kill ya.

OH it might make you dizzy the first few times you do it... but it will fade after a few times... so dont be operating any machinery or cars or stuff after taking your first dose :)

Hope you feel better OP!

Free:

Place hot a rag on your face for 10 mins, then place a cold rag on your face for 10 mins. Do this a couple of times and blow your nose (a lot of snot will come out but it will clear up the congestion).

Re: What to do for nasal/sinus congestion?
I take 5000 IU of vitamin D a day for flu, cold, etc prevention. I'd catch a very minor stuff if it happens at all. I get over it rather quickly but to sleep well at night, I use decongestant nasal spray before going to sleep to get a good night of sleep just for 2-3 nights before it goes away.

Prior to taking vitamin D, I'd get sinus infection every fucking winter that takes forever to get over it. Non stop dry cough is so annoying while getting over sinus infection but I noticed that I rarely get persistent dry cough any more so that is another big plus.

Re: What to do for nasal/sinus congestion?
This works for me...

--Neti pot (inexpensive and helpful!) You can use the packets of sodium bicarbonate and salt that are included in the pack, or make your own.

--Olive leaf extract (gelcaps)

--a cheap vaporizer (I use Vick's)...fill it with filtered water, add about 1/4 tsp sea salt and about 30 drops of Tea Tree Oil. I run mine in my room at night

--Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar...about a TBSP per 8oz water...drink twice per day.

--Hot compresses on the face (not too hot!)

--Vick's vapo-rub on the upper chest and neck (you can also slather it onto a face mask and wear that for a little while).

Good luck!

Re: What to do for nasal/sinus congestion?
The hot compresses work wonders. I like them as hot as I can stand it. Then I use tons of moisturizers on the face. Also I do not have a neti pot but a plain 10 oz. squirt bottle that I sterilize and fill with warm water. I squirt it slowly into my nose until it begins to come out the opposite nostril. I only do this once in awhile. and It really helps. I had cried for hours recently(very sick brother) and my head was splitting to the point I reall couldn't stand it, and was totally stopped up. I used the hot compresses and the more I did it the better I felt. Headache went, nose opened up and voila! I felt much better.

Yes, put Vicks on your feet and then put socks on, cured it within seconds. And I mean cured, whatever it was didnt come back and I had the worst sinus congestion I can ever remember having.

Re: What to do for nasal/sinus congestion?
That damned FDA banned the absolute BEST sinus medicine that was ever made back in the late 70's. It was a natural product, unpatentable, and the freaking drug companies pushed for the FDA to ban it so they could have the market for their patentable designer drugs that don't work even half as good.

You could take one contact or cordiciden tablet and you were DRY AS A BONE for 10 to 12 hours.

The drug? Belladona extract.

The dang sugar companies did the same thing to cyclamates. Cyclamates were sweet and cheap. No side effects. The blasted sugar industry fought like mad and created bogus studies where they lied like dogs to the FDA. The FDA and the politicians swallowed the crap hook line and sinker as they lined their wallets.

End result? in the early 2000's the entire thing was revieed by the FDA and they realized it was a sham. Cyclamates are legal again, but the damage in the public eye is done.

I'm dealing with it now. Headache for a week, now a faucet nose for 4 days. I don't know how to make it stop either.

I have tried everything. Homemade chicken soup seems to have worked the best.
