Yea, They never get excited until there is a supercell sitting on top of someone. I believe the "chasers" forecast because they monitor the weather for the rush..unlike the gov mets who watch it for the money. As I always say, Plan for the worst, hope for the best, if nothing happens, then you are prepared for the next time!..And there will always be a next time! |

They'll be using computers for the airport/aviation forecasts soon. They said they would be dangerous because they can't "see" dust storms, etc. What's up with their models now? |

CowgirlK User ID: 34838675 United States 02/20/2013 07:35 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Heads up Missouri! Travel Conditions: Roads may become slick in many parts of southwest Missouri during the early afternoon into evening hours starting Feb. 20. Conditions on roadways will deteriorate as the storm travels through southwest Missouri. Also, with icy conditions and high winds, ice-covered trees and power lines may fall into roadways. Roads may become impassable if trees and power lines fall into the roadway. Road Clearing: MoDOT workers will be on duty as the storm approaches, and will begin treating and plowing roads as conditions deteriorate. They will have chainsaws and will try to clear roads of tree debris as efficiently as possible. However, they will not be able to remove downed power lines and will have to rely on local power companies to respond to these areas. [link to southcountymail.com] |

KETK Meteorologist Scott Chesner predicts the greatest potential for damaging storms will be in deep East Texas around Lufkin, Nacogdoches, Center, San Augustine and Hemphill. “We’re (Longview and Tyler) going to get some good heavy rain and some thundering and lightning, but deep East Texas is not out of the woods for severe weather,” he said. Chesner said the threat for tornadic activity tomorrow will extend from deep East Texas into eastern Louisiana. “We cannot rule out an isolated tornado or two,” he said. THIS SYSTEM WILL ROTATE ACROSS AZ/NM TONIGHT AND INTO THE SOUTHERN HIGH PLAINS BY MORNING. SOUTHERLY LOW LEVEL WINDS AHEAD OF THE SYSTEM OVER THE PLAINS WILL RESULT IN SIGNIFICANT WARM/MOIST ADVECTION ACROSS PARTS OF TX/OK. HOWEVER...LIMITED DEEP LIFT AND A CAPPING INVERSION WILL LIKELY SUPPRESS SUBSTANTIAL CONVECTION UNTIL AFTER DARK. LATER TONIGHT...THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO INTENSIFY OVER WEST TX AS THE UPPER SYSTEM APPROACHES. THESE STORMS WILL LIKELY SPREAD EASTWARD ACROSS WESTERN NORTH TX AND SOUTHWEST OK WHERE FORECAST SOUNDINGS SHOW SUFFICIENT ELEVATED CAPE FOR ROBUST UPDRAFTS. VERTICAL SHEAR THROUGH THE CLOUD-BEARING LAYER AND STEEPENING LAPSE RATES WILL PROMOTE A RISK OF HAIL IN THE STRONGER STORMS OVERNIGHT. LARGE SCALE FORCING WILL WEAKEN WITH SOUTHERLY EXTENT OVER TX. HOWEVER...THE SURFACE BOUNDARY WILL LIE ALONG AN AXIS ROUGHLY FROM ABI TO SOUTH OF DAL BY THU MORNING. THE POTENTIAL FOR CONVECTIVE DEVELOPMENT DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE PARTICULARLY HIGH ALONG/SOUTH OF THIS AXIS...BUT SURFACE-BASED INSTABILITY AND LOW LEVEL SHEAR WOULD PROVIDE A CONDITIONAL RISK OF DAMAGING WINDS OR A BRIEF TORNADO IF A THUNDERSTORM CAN BECOME ESTABLISHED. What the heck is a Brief Tornado? Just a little one? Yes i think Brief is a little tornado lol...that was funny cowgirl. Great job covering all this...stay safe |
