All they are reporting right now is hail and heavy rain coming out of NM and into West Texas. Not much chasing going because it's dark out. Tomorrow should be interesting. I hope people are ready to hunker down for a while.

small line segment has developed in Lee county, New Mexico. This is the first sign we’ve seen of the approaching storm system. As the storm system continues to move eastward, additional storms will develop in West Texas. Temperatures at the surface are cool and stable. However, warm air advection is underway a few thousand feet above the ground. This warm air convection will bring in warm, unstable air northward just above the ground. While temperatures at the surface are in the 40s, they’re actually fairly warm about 5,000 feet above the ground. This elevated, unstable airmass will support elevated thunderstorms capable of producing large hail.

The Storm Prediction Center maintains their standard risk of severe weather overnight. Those in the orange shaded zones have the highest (relative) threat of experiencing large hail through sunrise Thursday. The risk of severe weather will spread further south and east after sunrise tomorrow. Don’t be surprised to get woken up by a boomer tonight.

The rain is here now, but not heavy yet. I'm trying to decide if I'm hearing wind around the buildings or thunder in the distance. If it is thunder, it's still pretty far away.

We've been tracking this storm system for over a week. There is a chance of severe weather over most of North Texas overnight. Main threats are damaging winds, large hail and a chance of a tornado or two (mainly in South of Waco). We'll be tracking the storms as they move thru overnight and tomorrow morning. Since its an overnight event, please have NOAA weather radios on standby or stay tuned with local media for updates.

How cool! That sounds like a lot of fun. We have some pretty good wine up here, too! We have a wedding up north in the fall, but I can't remember when it is. We'll have to talk off-line.

Western Kansas is getting buried under two feet of snow and closer to Kansas City we're gonna get over one foot of global warming accumulation when it's all said and done. The drive time forecast calls for three inches per hour to be falling with a slight 20mph breeze for your Doom enjoyment. I-70 will no doubt be a giant "truck stop" by lunch tomorrow.

Hi, Kansas. That fits with the precip maps I posted earlier. I know it's a pain, but maybe this is the beginning trend to break the drought. If you want to share, we'll take it, down Lubbock way! We're supposed to have blowing dust tomorrow.

Monster tornadoes in February: perfectly normal.

Asteroids falling all over the place: just a cosmic coincidence.

Fish dying by the millions; Rivers turning blood red; Spiders falling out of the sky; Earthquakes, tsunamis, fires, monster storms, etc: nothing to see here. Move along.

Hello in Lubbock. This moisture is surely desperately needed. I read recently that much of the Kansas winter wheat has been lost this year due to the drought. Our reservoirs are all lower than anybody can remember and many livestock watering holes are bone dry, so food prices are gonna shoot to the moon and back.

The ice storm in Arkansas, which is only going to get worse with time, caused a school bus to go off a mountain road.

Ours are too. The lakes in East Texas are doing better, but we are down TOO much. It'll take more than the 1/3 inch we had last night. We may be getting more chances in the next week, though. The trends haven't changed enough to say we're out of the woods, yet, but even a little bit of hope is better than nothing.

Excel had to shut down their processing plant last week, because of the lack of beef to butcher. Something like 2,000 jobs lost just at the plant in Plainview. That doesn't count all the other supporting business that will lay off or shut down.

Thankfully, no fatalities.

I'll take snow over ice anyday. I hope everyone in the line of the winter storms have their preps. It won't take much to lose power in an ice storm.

Thank you! I'm in extreme NW Arkansas, but fortunately there isn't much happening right now. We had HEAVY snowfall earlier in the day, but it melted within a couple hours! Lol, go figure!

We're supposed to get ice tonight and freezing rain, but we'll see. Arkansas weather is very hard to predict and pin down. It's always changing, but when it changes for the worse, it changes FAST!

Weather is getting harder to predict these last few years, I think. Except for the drought, when it's been hot, sunny, dry...for months! 3 years of it and we're all ready for just about any kind of wet. Except ice storms! They're beautiful, but dangerous. Stay safe up there. Hopefully, they'll cancel the schools and keep the buses in the barn.

The thunderstorms finally got here, complete with pea size hail. That's probably the worst we'll get (I hope).

Actually, they aren't too bad. Just some of the cold weather, low rumble thunder. Nothing really loud and not much lightning, either. Mostly, just some welcome rain!
