Remarkably, these people do not even count in federal statistics. Industrial injuries and deaths of temporary workers are not recorded, despite the fact that temporary workers are exposed to more danger than most workers in the economy. [link to www.ilsr.org] |

I don't believe that much plastic can fit in a birds stomach. B: Natural selection at work. I know damn well all seagulls don't eat plastic. You can see them pick up stuff and drop it if its not edible. If they are eating plastic its due to overpopulation and starving. C: What the hell is it with all this "humans are so terrible", feel bad about yourself mentality. Most of the people the have the biggest bleeding heart "reaction" to these types of things are the same type that like to blather on about how people should live, enjoying the smell of their own farts while riding in their prius. Anonymous Coward User ID: 30857551 Australia 02/22/2013 12:53 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You're a plague and we are the cure. Anonymous Coward User ID: 29311787 Canada 02/22/2013 01:05 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Thanks for sharing the video OP. The responses are quite telling. One of the biggest reasons that things have gotten so bad, and that the needed reversals haven't occurred as quickly as they could, is highlighted in this thread. Misunderstanding, denial, pessimism, and apathy: We have to DIE! We should all kill ourselves and let the world recover from our evil. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 25103579 Don't worry the earth will recover quickly when we are gone. Or we evolve beyond of destroying our surroundings. Everything is temporary Quoting: Mega Nix I hope that every single human being dies tomorrow so that this planet can find peace and balance again. Quoting: Norseman2083 We're not supposed to be here. We're a parasite! humans are psychotic viruses to this planet that need to be eradicated, we aren't special. We are not better than a plague, self centred ,egotistical and ultimately destructive. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 17299182 Our ego's make us believe we are adding value to the universe but we aren't,simply multiply, consume, destroy and cover it all up with a misplaced sense of rightousness and self entitlement.I for one look forward until I am eradicated along with the rest of you cancer entities. It seems like those birds are all still breeding and reproducing fairly well... Quoting: Shingen Everything dies. Nothing is meant to survive forever. Not even us. ^^Really?? The solution to rampant environmental degradation and collapsing biodiversity is that all humans must die? No this is not the solution. First of all, who will maintain the reactors and waste facilities if humans were to just disappear? Might accelerate the mass extinction we are facing just a bit. This negativity reflects a very negative personal outlook, but is definitely not any kind of solution. __ On the other hand, it's so refreshing to see that some posters have provided some really great potential avenues for positive change, and more realistic outlooks: I see you feelings about this are very selfless and I can admire that completely. Having said that you might want to keep your chin up a bit. Just saying. Its really not that bad out there. Get out every now and then you might like it outside of your digital world. hope you have a great day. Humanity will surprise you when you least expect it. Quoting: R3B2 34185911 Great attitude R3B2!! There's more 'wonder' in the first 10 feet beyond your front door, if you care to really look, and find it, than all the digital channels combined. I think that this year folks will start to see more value in people, rather than profit or things. Emotional banks, and not money banks, after all, there is no money now a days anyway, it's all virtual. But people are real, and helping another person goes a long way to creating a 'bank' of good ideas, and support, that does so much more than lending money to buy another useless item, that requires the corporation who makes it, to make fore ever greater profits, which forever keep treading on people and small busines to achieve that. The best thing about an emotional bank, which could take the form of advice, community help, man power, or just emotional support to get people going on their own steam again, is that it cant be taxed, doesnt require endless rising profit, and can grow infinately large, or be as small as two people. This is what is feared by those who seek control. The mechanisms of control meaning nothing to people any longer, and as such, cant be controlled. Wont happen over night - but it will happen! You care enough to do your own part, and it is enough, because that is all any of us can do. If everyone does their own part things will change, and the trend will be altered. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 34026380 BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE IN THE WORLD - Mahatma Gandhi. Human activities have caused an environmental catastrophe - it is undeniable. Change is inevitable - also undeniable. Each of us has a choice to decide what direction we would like that change to take. Will we be part of the problem or part of the solution? Will you be a force working to oppose progress, or will you be a force that contributes to the promotion of responsible action? The potential for people to work together to promote positive change is worth believing in, and worth fighting for. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 33506167 Philippines 02/22/2013 01:41 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I get the message of this video. But the makers should not think that they can deceive everybody. It's obvious that the dead birds shown are selective of the junk they eat. One bird loves electronic goodies like capacitors, transistors, diodes, resistors and PCBs. Don't the filmmakers think that they should sort of put a variety of object in each bird. |
salty1 User ID: 28319578 United States 02/22/2013 01:46 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | That being said, those birds, thousands of miles away, are the last thing I'm worried about right now. It's a struggle just survive ourselves. Everything is falling down around us. This freaking economy is killing us. Everyone is living payday to payday. Everyone I know is stressed to the breaking point over finances...and there's no relief in sight. I have a great job...my wife has a great job....neither of us will ever be able to afford to retire though. Every day, our money is able to buy less and less. Our world is a lake of quicksand, and the vine keeping us from going under is getting very slippery. One false step and you'll be sucked into the bottomless pit below. I truly fear for my children’s futures. If it’s this bad now, I can’t imagine how bad it will be in another ten or twenty years. Fuel, food, utilities, everything is getting harder and harder to purchase. The dollar is becoming more and more worthless. So...sorry to seem cold hearted, but those damn birds are on their own. saltyone USMC 0341/0331 |
