I don't know exactly when, but sometime in the late 70's early 80's corporations started replacing glass with plastic for many food products. It was all an effort to save money and have greater profits. It was lighter to transport and less product would be lost if there was a sudden shock to the container.

Downsides are too many to list, and this video shows one of the major downsides. We should start demanding that plastic be outlawed except for a few products that actually require the use of plastic.

Also, plastic bags at grocery stores should be banned since paper bags have worked just fine and at least paper decomposes. These plastic bags are everywhere: side of the road, rivers, oceans, lakes, forests..it's pretty disgusting.

Take away all humans and within ten years all life on this planet would thrive.
Take away all insects and within fifteen years all humans would be gone.

I so wish human beings really understood what is meant by "it's all connected".

There is no vacuum in nature. It flows from one to the other... to the other until it comes full circle. Just because we can't see the other end, doesn't mean we aren't involved.

Human race is learning how to live and in its ignorance nature has not got to suffer till point of no return. That is just stupid. Because up until very recently about 100 years or so the oceans weren't full of garbage. The stuff they are eating probably resembles some type of food they are used to. What make look obvious to you might not be so obvious to a bird.

There are actually massive collections of garbage floating on the surface that span many miles in the ocean.

Awww. I feel so terribly sad about this. I guess you don't realize how what you throw away can cause such damage to such beautiful creatures. I will change!

Isn't the trash of large areas taken out to sea on big barges? It's not from littering, it's the way we LET disposal companies dispose of OUR trash. The best part of prepping and living on a strict budget is you cook and flour, sugar, come in paper bags. Notice, they didn't really have cans in them...PLASTICS and small metal pieces. When we don't have OIL, we won't have plastics. Sure a lot of gulls in that movie. Maybe we are their predators, now, rather than wolves, snakes, etc, that we have driven away from beaches.

Yes, the West is mostly ignorant of former USSR's sufferings. We saw videos of lines and artists trying to escape while they were on tour. Some of us have German blood in them, who moved to the Ukraine for 3 generations but once the government started kicking the cow, the cow moved to the upper mid-west of America, where their strong farming skills help build the expansion of the West. Start a thread. Tell how people survived when the government stepped on them. It will help us prep.

It is not just the birds, the fish too are eating plastic. It is easy to make biodegradable plastic but it does add some expense and cuts into profit margins. It is the corporate bean counters that are at fault, always looking for ways to shave off 0.001% of manufacturing costs. Of course the CEO's don't give a hoot about the environment, just the next quarterly report to stock holders, so if costs are down and profit margin is up, all is wonderful. As long as greed trumps every other consideration, we are all doomed in the long run. That is a certainty. We are like a bunch of lemmings in so many ways.

Humanity won't change. It is why institutions like the Conservancy Bank strive to wipe us out. It is the only solution.

Humans should not live by the billions in mega cities. Small, select groups of humans should live in highly advanced villages sporadically across the world.

The Earth should exist wild and free with little or no impact from humanity. This is the vision of TPTB. Billions and billions of Chinese and Africans may not like it, but that will be the end result. We have the technology now. We can do it.

Most insightful thing I have heard in awhile.

I'm not usually one for overly emotional based media, especially environmental documentaries but I have to say how truly sickening this evidence is. I'll plan to go see this documentary.

If that isn't cancer than I don't know what cancer is. : (
