Great thread OP! Restores my faith in humanity. I know there are alot of awful men out there, but, there are alot of awful women too. But what you say is so true. You must have also chosen a good woman as your wife. Kudos to both of you!

Thank you, yes we both have our downfalls and they are plentiful. It's being able to see around those things and not blame each other for them.

Yes like the Russian guy says, 6 years is even short of the 7 year itch. I'm at 15 now, still got a long way to go raising my sons. And they're both less than 15.

I took that out because I thought that was a little too much info. I was not expecting the popularity of the thread. The children are biologically mine, my first daughter was out of wedlock although I was already making plans about popping my wife the question before she was born. My second daughter was conceived while we were married.

...And I don't know why people are being sticklers about this fact. This has nothing to do with the main idea of the thread. It's usually a liberal tactic to focus on "other" impractical points to avoid facing the reality of problems.

2 Eight year old kids ... and married for 6 years. YEP ... YOU are the poster boy for "good values".

Many divorced guys who were of the nice variety finally had the rose colored glasses YANKED off them when they were going through their respective divorces ... and once the "TRUTH" is finally known it can never be forgotten.

The current statistics are 70% of all married women HAVE ALREADY HAD AN AFFAIR ... so if one excludes the newly weds, the much older generation and the uglies the odds say that MOST average to above average women have ALREADY slept around on their husbands (probably 90% to 95%). It is just the way the female brain is wired. She wants her man to be faithful, but SHE is not faithful.

Another interesting statistic, one from the NIA from a study in the late 90's is that if a woman has had 5 sex partners prior to her husband the odds her marriage lasting more than 10 years is only 30%. (the majority of women today in their early 20's?). By 15 sex partners ... it has dropped precipitously from those already low levels.

The younger generation of males (those under 35) are wising up FAST that marriage is a one way street, GREAT for the woman but an almost guaranteed losing proposition for the male, particularly if you are a male who is on the ball, going to be or already are successful, and are a nice person. When the now almost inevitable divorce comes (divorce rates are climbing for the younger set even as they delay marriage further and further out), the male is going to be on the recieving end of a focking the likes of which is little understood until you have been through it.

OH ... and the "double standard" when it comes to everything about relationships is still alive and well: She hits the male and causes him injury ... police say too bad, get back to life. He hits her and doesn't even cause injury ... police haul the guys ass to jail; She won't pay child support ... oh well. He won't pay child support ... lose all licenses and off to jail; She won't let him see the kids as required by the Court Order ... oh well. He won't let her see the kids as required by the Court Order ... he is off to jail; the list goes on and on ... but once the marriage contract is signed these days the guy is screwed for L-I-F-E (and this doesn't even get into the money side of a relationship or marriage).

There ARE some good women out there ... but good luck finding them! (by my estimation they make up less than 10% of the universe ... and since they ARE good women they are NOT available since they almost always already have a solid partner).

Being older I am no longer amazed but am now just amused as I listen to women I know PROUDLY talk about THEIR affair(s) (usually multiple) and how they "took their ex to the cleaners" ... and then in the next paragraph say that they just can't understand why they "can't find a man who wants to commit anymore".

My rose colored glasses are gone ... now I just find women amusing.

well I don't spend a lot of time reading the women-bashing threads, although they are like GLP reality TV and much a like a train wreck, you can't help but look to see what's going on when you see a thread blazing up the front page.

I am lucky to be in a healthy relationship. My husband and I both respect each other and KNOW what our true places are wrt to marriage and that is why we have harmony. I've tried many times to offer advice here and get cyber slapped by doing so. Oh well. I know the keys to a successful, meaningful, loving relationship and I've avoided the pitfalls and land mines that so many here complain about.

Yes, I a woman and yes, i can be a bitch, but I also have a deep understanding of men, or at least my man. I know how to effectively relate to the other men (friends/family) in my life as well. We all have accountability for our words and actions. When I see the cruelty and name calling of women here, it saddens me because the men that are extremely hurt and torn apart that blame women will not doubt carry that anger to all their other relationships.

One of the reasons people get scared of dating people that have already been divorced is for just this reason. No one wants to deal with the broken, jaded, bitter damaged goods of either sex.

Its really easy to point the finger and blame the opposite sex for all the problems in the relationship, but you will never heal by doing that. You want peace? Be accountable for your own part in the demise of the relationship. Own your part and put it in the past. I don't see that going on from what I read here. No one wants to admit maybe, just maybe they were part of the problem.

Before I married I had plenty of relationships that obviously didn't work and the reason was that I was part of the problem. Now I am in a healthy relationship because I choose to be part of the solution.

These threads critical of women are started by heterosexual men who want to love women. They do care. They don't actually hate women, but rather, they hate what women have become.

Such criticism is valid. To write it off is to play wish-away. If something wasn't seriously off with American or Western womanhood today, do you think there'd be all these angry posts in the first place?

And it seems like the men who kowtow to the bullshit, like the OP, are the ones women openly praise, while subsequently fucking every bad boy they come across. Or they secretly look down on their pedestal-placing husband and pushover to serve her needs.

I am a long time married woman and I've never had an affair. If I even catch myself going down the wrong path (i,e flirting, fantasizing, etc) I stop and seriously evaluate all the pain and suffering that any infidelity on my part would cause to all parties involved- I have learned the true meaning of NOT being a selfish person. I agree that many women (and men) are shit. They have lost any sense of morals and values and take no responsibility for their selfish actions. And given the chance, many will jump ship at the first chance to trade up or to get out of having to do the work involved in any relationship.

I could have justified in my pea brain cheating once or twice during some rocky times I experienced during our marriage, but I stayed true to MYSELF and my husband. I have respect for the vows I took and plan to uphold my part of the deal till death do us part.

Anyone who has been in a long term relationship knows that there are some times when you feel like the other person has let you down or that the love is gone. Its those times that you drop everything else around you and focus on the relationship. True love never dies. I have luckily had more good times than bad and that is why I believe in the institution of marriage, as crazy as it is sometimes.

and fwiw I would rather be cheated on than be the cheater. I could not live with myself if I was the reason I caused another person to experience such heartbreak and pain.
