What if there is no sequential time in the afterlife and reincarnation is real.

How many souls would you need to populate an entire universe if that were true?

Oh yeah, 5* and a pin if it was not yet already.

A note on that: I have karma pinned threads both during normal working hours (North America time) and also on overnight hours (again N.America time) and I find there is a major difference! You get much less views and much less replies on the overnight shift, but there is a higher quality sometimes- more in depth, thoughtful responses. WAY less shills, it seems as if shills are nonexistent in overnight threads........which really lends credence to the belief that shills are paid (and would therefore be working from some cubicle-hell during typical working hours somewhere between 8am-7pm EST.)
So, good luck to you, Calx, I hope your thread gives your mind and spirit some invigoration and leads you to ponder ideas you had not considered!

Probably intergalactic tax evasion, knowning my luck...that's just what I used to tell my parents when I was a small annoying child, that they were not my parents because, "someone sent me here to hide me".

Odd tantrums. I don't have any skills. Witness protection?
Maybe I just came here to hide from my next dentists appointment.

successful life (success according to one's own standards

See that's what we need to define.

"Success."

What in the world does that mean? Monetary success? George Soros AKA "Schwartz" just made 1 BILLION dollars on a trade against the yen. How much money do you need? Why is one person allowed to do this? Why is this person dedicated to destroying countries?

Well anyhow. I'm on the kill list and I'm okay with that. My time is short here and I'm happy about that. I hope I destined for something better than all this money shit.

It's an intriguing idea because I'm sure that my parents considered their time preferable to the present and their parents probably did the same. Of course people in the USA had it made 60 years ago or more relative to most of the world. Low population density, healthy environment, good food, enormous natural wealth.

What!!!??? Are you serious!!?? Lifespan has doubled now than 500 yrs ago. Would you rather live in the Dark Ages with the black plague? Or the american civil war? Or as an immigrant working on railroads and mines? Or a black slave wiped?! Or fighting with the WWs?! How about drinking led poisoned wells that had no filtration system??!! Or laboring in the farms 12 hrs a day to put food on the table? You guys dont even know how good we have it. Western Poverty live like Kings in 3rd world countries! We are so spoiled here its unimaginable.

Our lifespan may have increased but our quality of living has not.
 Quoting: calx

"Quality" of living is subjective. I agree, we are less free than we were before and need double household income but look at what tools we have in our disposal! Cars, Computers, phones, Starbucks haha, airplanes, etc... would you trade all this in to only have to be able to support a family on one income? and producing 1/4 of the work now? Maybe.... but maybe not because if we are not advance as a country, we will be overtaken by another that is willing to advance at a faster pace.

But good topic nonetheless.

How many angels can you fit on the head of a pin?

Its a little less esoteric than that. If, in the afterlife, there is no sequential time....then its possible to be reincarnated before you died. Or during your own lifetime. You could conceivably meet yourself if the laws of sequence that govern the mortal world don't apply to the spiritual one.

Assuming reincarnation and the lack of sequential time in the afterlife, the smallest number of souls necessary to populate the entire universe...

...would be one.

Following that idea and speculating shamelessly, we could all be different lives of the same soul. Manifesting in no particular order.

The idea of the next generation having a harder time fixing the world's problems are not new. Look back to antiquity, the golden, silver and bronze ages. Its pretty obvious that the ages are based on atomic weight and we have been in decline since the very beginning...

When we reach rock bottom we start asking these types of questions.

I think the next step is to make efforts to self-realise.

Anyone else feel like they've been thrust into this world against their will?

Well to be honest I came here intentionally. Sort of like a vacation in reverse lol.

Why are you here and what do you contribute to the good of the world? :)
 Quoting: calx

This question deserves its own thread, and could fill an entire library with just the thoughts and ruminations and ramblings of just one person.

This is ultimately the question one must ask of oneself in order to live a happy, successful life (success according to one's own standards): Why am I here?

I believe I am here to experience as much as possible, and to continually GROW. Looking at all other life on earth, their reason for existing is to GROW. So should I, in all manners, but especially my soul and spirit and consciousness should grow!

Thanks, Mr. Hee-Ho for the stimulation!

Self-realisation is dependent on memory. An experience from the past of something better (higher/more authentic/refined/subtle) is triggered in the consciousness and there is realisation of how we have fallen. This provides the contrast that motivates change from within.

Itís much worse than that. Karma is probably settled as we go along but itís the habits/tendencies that remain with us from birth to birth and so the same bad karma is performed and the habit more ingrained until the intensity of suffering tells that enough is enough. Even then itís like trying to cure 2000-year heroin addiction.

I'm hopeful that it's not just a case of life's a bitch then you die.

My guru was fond of telling a story of when, as a young yogi, he was charged with guarding the tent containing the sweets for a large celebration. Of course we wandered in and eat himself unconscious! He later became one of the foremost tantric yogis of his generation.

Well, obviously you have no religious beliefs, so it must be bleak.

While I would not have appreciated sitting in an outhouse for hours with intestinal discomfort, I have to say that I have lately been thinking that life was much better before electricity. We might have had shorter life spans etc., but I think the value of every day was much more valuable. I'm so sick of cars, apps, cell phones - agreed I'd definitely like to go back at least before the last two. Life was much better.

My mother has often said - and she watched the moon landing live like most Americans, and made the kids watch it etc. - that the moon was almost more enjoyable before you knew what it was. More mystery....
I can understand that now.

As a Christian I'm not worried about my own destiny, and I know what will happen to the planet, but I do share your enthusiasm for looking at things differently.
