| Anonymous Coward User ID: 27162552 02/21/2013 11:30 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Let me add to my previous post. You guys don't like government regulations. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 2021744 So Hobby Lobby can say they don't want to cover birth control, and that is fine. Then where do you draw the line. Good for Hobby Lobby. But what a precidence.\ Now your wife gets a rare cancer... you insurance company can just say, we don't cover that kind of cancer, no government regulations, so what are you gonna do? Sell your house and everything you own? Sometimes regulation is a good thing, it is the reason why we don't allow your local oil change place to dump used oil in the ditch out back, it is the reason restaurants have to wash the dishes, it is the reason trucking companies have to keep safe tires on their trucks, it is the reason your grocery store doesn't wash old chicken in bleach and repackage it with a new date. They want to be an insurance company, they need to play by the rules put in place for insurance companies. At times the government has trouble regulating itself. I agree sometimes regulation is a good thing. |

| YaRight User ID: 34881036 02/21/2013 11:34 AM ![]() Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Let me get this straight. First of all they are self-insured. That choice puts them under the regulation regarding insurance companies. If I remember correctly, their problem was the government was saying they had to cover birth control as an insurance company. They claim it goes against their Christian beliefs. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 2021744 So instead of switching their model and buying outside insurance, they decide to go out of business? The fact that they have to cover birth control is going to put them out of business? LOL, if that is the case, they have other problems. And they are just happy to blame their demise on the government. Give me a break. Wow just WOW If you don’t know anything about business then you really should not comment Self-insured does not mean they have insurance department LOL it means they back the money end of it and a Blue Cross / Aetna ..Etc… manages it for them. Under Obummer Care the insurance companies (BC / A) must provide the morning after pill hence abortions Now craw back under your Liberal rock and peal that damn O sticker off of your cash for clunker car The most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the government and I'm here to help. |

Quoting: A Dying Breed You may as well have said, "That's what you get when you try to establish a business that will last with ideologies and principles that have lasted for over 5000 years." But the ideologies of stupid liberalism or socialism, going back several decades in its current form, sure have worked wonders in Greece. Or how about France, where an American CEO said yesterday that anyone would be an idiot to consider investing in a large company in France, where workers love their culture of lazy leftism. |

When government law conflicts with God's law, then the govenment's law must be disobeyed or avoided. Shutting down their business will allow them to avoid killing another human being through abortion related circumstances. We are not only talking the store's employees, but the manufacturing workers, warehouse personnel, truckers and everyone else in Hobby Lobby's supply chain? Now what if this puts some of those business to the point of closing their doors? This creates a Domino effect of business closures and unemployment. So regardless of your feelings for the business ethics or moral stand, it's closing hurts all of us. |

| Anonymous Coward User ID: 27242440 02/21/2013 12:50 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hobby Lobby is one of my favorite stores and I really hate to see them go !!! Quoting: Yes I Did !!!! THIS NEWS CAME OUT EARLIER, BUT IT IS SO SAD FOR A GREAT COMPANY AND STORE. Read his letter, please. When you see this going on in our lifetime...... Originated: Sunday, February 17, 2013 6:56 PM Subject: HOBBY LOBBY MAY CLOSE ITS DOORS HOBBY LOBBY MAY CLOSE ITS DOORS Micah 6:8..."to act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." Letter from Hobby Lobby Stores CEO By David Green, the founder and CEO of Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc. When my family and I started our company 40 years ago, we were working out of a garage on a $600 bank loan, assembling miniature picture frames. Our first retail store wasn't much bigger than most people's living rooms, but we had faith that we would succeed if we lived and worked according to God's word. From there, Hobby Lobby has become one of the nation's largest arts and crafts retailers, with more than 500 locations in 41 states. Our children grew up into fine business leaders, and today we run Hobby Lobby together, as a family. We're Christians, and we run our business on Christian principles. I've always said that the first two goals of our business are (1) to run our business in harmony with God's laws, and (2) to focus on people more than money. And that's what we've tried to do. We close early so our employees can see their families at night. We keep our stores closed on Sundays, one of the week's biggest shopping days, so that our workers and their families can enjoy a day of rest. We believe that it is by God's grace that Hobby Lobby has endured, and he has blessed us and our employees. We've not only added jobs in a weak economy, we've raised wages for the past four years in a row. Our full-time employees start at 80% above minimum wage. But now, our government threatens to change all of that. A new government healthcare mandate says that our family business MUST provide what I believe are abortion-causing drugs as part of our health insurance. Being Christians, we don't pay for drugs that might cause abortions, which means that we don't cover emergency contraception, the morning-after pill or the week-after pill. We believe doing so might end a life after the moment of conception, something that is contrary to our most important beliefs. It goes against the Biblical principles on which we have run this company since day one. If we refuse to comply, we could face $1.3 million PER DAY in fines. Our government threatens to fine job creators in a bad economy. Our government threatens to fine a company that's raised wages four years running. Our government threatens to fine a family for running its business according to its beliefs. It's not right. I know people will say we ought to follow the rules; that it's the same for everybody. But that's not true. The government has exempted thousands of companies from this mandate, for reasons of convenience or cost. But it won't exempt them for reasons of religious belief. So, Hobby Lobby and my family are forced to make a choice. With great reluctance, we filed a lawsuit today, represented by the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, asking a federal court to stop this mandate before it hurts our business. We don't like to go running into court, but we no longer have a choice. We believe people are more important than the bottom line and that honoring God is more important than turning a profit. My family has lived the American dream. We want to continue growing our company and providing great jobs for thousands of employees, but the government is going to make that much more difficult. The government is forcing us to choose between following our faith and following the law. I say that's a choice no American and no American business should have to make. The government cannot force you to follow laws that go against your fundamental religious belief. They have exempted thousands of companies but will not excempt Christian organizations including the Catholic church. Since you will not see this covered in any of the liberal media, pass this on to all your contacts. Sincerely, David Green, CEO and Founder of Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc. I love how he says he runs his business in harmony with "God's laws" but closes on Sunday and not Saturday. These people are such idiots. |
