People/ groups throughout history have wanted to kill Jesus or the idea of Him. Not all spirits are the same. The "good" spirits the Native American's recognized are not the Holy Spirit the Bible recognizes. Though, I suppose, both the Bible and the NAs profess to evil spirits.

Well, you're right, I'm not an expert on Native American sprituality. I base my statement mainly on the fact that most NAs were polytheistic and pantheistic, which contradicts the Bible's teaching of one Holy Spirit. I did hear that the Iroquois may have been monotheistic. Interesting topic, though. Spiritual beliefs aside, part of me has always longed for the NA lifestyle, though I'm sure it was full of its hardships-- even before European invasion.

That one statement probably hurts more than anything, to kill a people is one horrible thing, but to completely erase their history is just gut wrenching ... How incredibly frustrating, I come from a long line of patriots, whom I love dearly ... But this has always made me question the soul of anyone who can take pride in a country that has been responsible for so much terror ... Maybe I'm wrong, I'm sure many will tell me I am but it's getting harder and harder the older I get to bury the truth that I've always felt was behind this "great nation" .. I am though, feeling a little cranky and maybe a bit too honest today so we'll see.

I guess you did not learn much being raised Baptist.
The Bible declares that God is revealed by both Nature, and in the Heavens.
Man's own nature,(conscious), tells us right from wrong.
So just as Abram, Moses and others found God, so can any man.

Now Jesus is the way to life, those who died before he lived and tried to live righteously, were allowed to receive Him, and get eternal life.

So one can assume it would be the same for any Indians that did not know Jesus, but tried to live righteously.

The Just live by Faith in God, not by rules that are made by man or written in a book. Even the Israelite's could not live by the rules in the Bible and obtain righteousness.

God is fair in all his dealings with man, although we may have trouble understanding them.

i dont know about in the USA but up here in Canada they did, however the natives were herded into "residential schools" where they were subjected to horrific abuse.

The treatment of children in Indian Residential Schools is a sad chapter in our history.

For more than a century, Indian Residential Schools separated over 150,000 Aboriginal children from their families and communities. In the 1870's, the federal government, partly in order to meet its obligation to educate Aboriginal children, began to play a role in the development and administration of these schools. Two primary objectives of the Residential Schools system were to remove and isolate children from the influence of their homes, families, traditions and cultures, and to assimilate them into the dominant culture. These objectives were based on the assumption Aboriginal cultures and spiritual beliefs were inferior and unequal. Indeed, some sought, as it was infamously said, "to kill the Indian in the child". Today, we recognize that this policy of assimilation was wrong, has caused great harm, and has no place in our country.

One hundred and thirty-two federally-supported schools were located in every province and territory, except Newfoundland, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. Most schools were operated as "joint ventures" with Anglican, Catholic, Presbyterian or United Churches. The Government of Canada built an educational system in which very young children were often forcibly removed from their homes, often taken far from their communities. Many were inadequately fed, clothed and housed. All were deprived of the care and nurturing of their parents, grandparents and communities. First Nations, Inuit and Métis languages and cultural practices were prohibited in these schools. Tragically, some of these children died while attending residential schools and others never returned home.

The government now recognizes that the consequences of the Indian Residential Schools policy were profoundly negative and that this policy has had a lasting and damaging impact on Aboriginal culture, heritage and language. While some former students have spoken positively about their experiences at residential schools, these stories are far overshadowed by tragic accounts of the emotional, physical and sexual abuse and neglect of helpless children, and their separation from powerless families and communities.

Oh, my goodness. What is this about sending folks with bibles into the reservations? Wht not go to the poorest (3rd world conditions) reservations to get heating going, to get them adequate health care and food? Do you think anyone will take christians seriously when your children die from bad water, when grandma freeze to death in the winters, when the houses are holy and moldy and their tunnies are empty and mom god diabetes? No, I see too little from christians in regards to reality check. There is so much more I could tell you but walking in to a rez with a bible is not the way to go. Speak to the local churches on the reservations, they got native pastors. They can tell you what is really needed.

From Genesis to Revelation the Bible is about God's
relationship with one people, Israel.

Jesus said He was sent ONLY to the lost sheep of Israel.

Who and where are those "lost sheep" ?

They are the vast majority of Israelites who were scattered
into Europe and Asia since the 8th century BC... scattered
first by Assyria, then by Babylon.

Only a small fraction of Israelites returned to Palestine
after the Babylonian captivity.

Those who call themselves "jews" today are not Israelites.
They are Edomites who lost a war with Israel and were forced
to "convert" in the 2nd century BC [forced "conversion" is evil
and it created an abomination, Edomite-jews.]

The vast majority of Israelites converted to Christianity
just as Jesus said they would: "My sheep hear My voice...
and they follow Me. "

You are taking that quote totaly out of context. Jesus told the apostles to "Go forth and teach ye ALL nations..." and they did.We arent sitting around waiting to be saved, we ARE saved. He saved our souls, our bodies may still cause us to fall or to think incorrectly, but if we listed to HIM we get back on track and when our bodies suffer fail and die, we die to eternal life because our souls are immortal.

Re: Did Native Americans have access to the Bible?
Christianity has left an indelible print on the lives of Native Americans. Since the first contact between Europeans and Native Americans, the visitors sought to "civilize" those they mistakenly called Indians by telling them of God and Jesus. Later, in the nineteenth century, the U.S. government decided to assimilate the Native peoples by neatly dividing them into reservations and assigning the reservations to various Christian missionaries. This behavior was hardly understandable to the Indian peoples. Since none of their perhaps six hundred tribal traditions emphasized conversion and proselytization, it was unclear to them why the Christians wanted everyone to worship the same way they did. Some of the methods used were cruel: taking children away from their families to attend missionary boarding schools where they were punished for infractions such as speaking in their native language. To many, this time was a Holocaust that robbed them of their tribal tongues and traditions and replaced them with empty promises of a God of love who punished with a sharp whip.

And if not.. Why not? We're they not important enough to be taught the ways of Jesus? I mean, if we're all God's children..wouldn't everyone have known about Him?
And would Christians of early American days have condemned them to Hell because they did not accept Christ as their savior, even though they knew nothing of him?

Please forgive my ignorance.. I'm just looking for answers

cheers
 Quoting: MrsCrickets

The whole concept of having to convert to christianity , or ending up in hell, actually ORIGINATED from the intention for politicians , kings, rulers, vatican(pope), etc......to come into foreign lands and take them over.

That is what they did during the Crusades. That is what they did to North American native americans. That is what they did to the native in South America.

There aren't very many religions that are SO ignorant as to preach that you HAVE to believe exactly like they do, or you are condemned to eternal suffering. Any decent, intelligent human being with any self-esteem would NEVER buy into that, unless perhaps they were tortured or bribed into believing that system (which happened a lot in the old days), or those beliefs were brainwashed into them at such a young age.

Religion is man made. Religion is MANS attempt to create a system around Avatard, Enlightened souls, etc. Usually what happens, is a Soul comes to earth, and is born a baby just like the rest of us. Either through past life karma, their own effort, or due to the soul being a highly evolved soul from elsewhere, this soul, in human incarnation, achieves enlightenment. Every period that mankind goes through, there is always a few rare souls who achieve enlightenment.

When this happens, the followers attempt to do everything they can to retain the great Dharma, (or teachings) of this individual. This often includes copying down the enlightened ones Sayings, or Gospel, following a strict moral or ethic code they believe will help them be closer to the Enlightened one, and also usually certain prayers, practices, meditations, etc given by the enlightened One, to help the followers on the path to Enlightenment/God/Nirvana/Great Spirit whatever you want to call it.

That is the truth, and christianity is a mixture of paganism, Judaism, Paul(saul's) so called New Testament books (he wasnt even ALIVE during Christs time, let alone a disciple. Not to mention he PERSONALLY murdered many christians).

If anyone is really interested in the true teachings of christ, I suggest you A) look into the dead sea scrolls, The Essene Gospels of Peace, and Gnosticism, which was the early followers of Christ.

If you DO insist on using the BIble for trying to understand Christ's message, I suggest you stick ONLY to the four gospels , Mathew, Mark, Luke, and John. I suggest you AVOID anything by Paul.

Also, if you are TRULY interested in authentic Christianity, you should also study Dao De Ching, Buddhism, Tantra, Yoga (specifically Paramahansa Yogananda, he was close to Christ in spirit, and also the Yoga Sutras, very great description of the process of uniting your consciousness with that of God/Spirit/etc).

Re: Did Native Americans have access to the Bible?
Your kidding, right? The Native American children were stolen from their tribes and sent to CATHOLIC schools, their hair was cut, their were forbidden to talk their language, basically, there were painted to be WHITE. There is much history on this and all Native Americans I know are CATHOLIC from these very events.
I don't know anything about the CATHOLIC religion, besides the Pope is some kind of God and they worship Mother Mary, rather than Jesus.
Find the movie Into The West (I think that is it), gives a very detailed account of this. Nope, maybe it was Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee that more keenly portrays these events.
Yes, I think it is the Bury My Heart movie, but Into The West which is like a 6 CD movie series might also portray some of what happened to the natives, the ones that weren't killed, that is.
Please catch up on some of the history of this country, TY!

I'm just looking for answers

cheers

great spirit trumps anything religion has to sell. That's why they burned us, killed us and marched us until we just said OK you win.

Re: Did Native Americans have access to the Bible?
Also, the reason mainstream Christianity isn't authentic, is because in just about EVERY authentic spiritual practice, in order to be a follower of someone, or have someone as your teacher or guru, or whatever, you have to have DIRECT contact with them, and be ordained by them.

The only exception to this , would be to be ordained or taught by a follower who was ordained by the teacher/guru, or so on. When the original enlightened one teaches his followers, and they go on to have their OWN followers, and it continues down the line, that is called a Lineage.

The Lineage of Christ was all hunted down, and murdered pretty much. Christ was murdered, and most of his disciples one by one were murdered as well. That is when the Roman Empires took control of the "religion", held a Council, and compiled the "new testament".

It is a historical fact that Constantine got together a bunch of scholars and whatnot, and HE was the ultimate authority of what books were included in the bible, and what books were left out.

The authentic teaching of Christ was left to the Early Gnostics, who were hunted down and tortured/murdered because they would't yield to the church of Rome.

Anyone who truly is curious as to who Christ was, and what his message was, is going to have a VERY hard time sorting through the facts. The best we know, is he was an Enlightened Soul, who had some disciples, and was murdered off in a conspiracy between the Jews and the Romans.

There ARE actual accounts of Jesus outside of the general area. The Tibetans actually have an account of Christ, called the Gospel of Isis. Jesus Christ DID travel, and these where the years unaccounted for in the bible. He taught AND LEARNED in tibet, egypt, India, and possibly elsewhere.

The true message of Christ appears to be a great message, in alignment with ALL the great teachers that have come to earth. Unfortunately, do to the conspiracy to silence him, much , if not almost ALL of his original message was corrupted and distorted.

Do research on the Ghost Dance also, that will tell you a lot about the spirituality of the Great Spirit and their demise because of it :(

My main reason for asking, as nothing more than a white girl from WV raised by baptists, is it all seems so fake the older I get.. And I genuinely want to hear someone tell me why, if Jesus is the only way, did Native Americans not know about him... Does that make sense?

" James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ,
To the twelve tribes scattered among the nations:
Greetings. "

James 1:1

Jesus sent His disciples to seek that which was lost...
God's sheep, Israel [in the Bible, "sheep" is a symbol
for Israel] the vast majority of whom were scattered into
Europe and Asia since the 8th century BC... since the
Assyrian and Babylonian captivities. And Jesus' disciples
did exactly that. St Andrew went East, to the Rus and Slavs
and first converted those Israelites to Christianity.
