So long as olive producers are unable to earn a fair profit for their olives and olive oil, groves will die out." All this irresponsible food faking for profit is putting the honest food producers at risk of going out of business. Then, if that happens, may the Lord have mercy on us or can we do something to stop this? |

So when you blame " Wall Street" you're blaming mom and dad, you want to blame big corps but it's the regular people that own most of the stocks. Don't be a jerk! "Wall Street" is synonymous with Banksters and Brokesters. And no, it is not true that most of the "regular" people own most of the stocks, but that they are owned by megaliths operating on behalf of funds and some of the regular people are vested in these funds - but not a majority. |

It's in a glass bottle, looks good but doesn't smell or taste like olive oil. When I bought it a week ago I wasn't aware of the extent of food fraud that goes on everywhere. There is a book called: "Extra Virginity: The Sublime and Scandalous World of Olive Oil" Starting with an explosive article in The New Yorker, Tom Mueller has become the world's expert on olive oil and olive oil fraud-a story of globalization, deception, and crime in the food industry from ancient times to the present, and a powerful indictment of today's lax protections against fake and even toxic food products in the United States. |

You think you're paying the same price... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 34851080 Some companies will just raise their price, but most won't. What they will do is keep the price the same so as not to alert their customer base to inflation, but they will simply put a little less product in the container. Still others will adulterate, dilute or temper with the product. Doing this stretches the product & lowers the company's cost of production. EXACTLY! Although not a food, Northern Bath Tissue was 242 sheets per roll - now it has new packaging and states it has more sheets per roll than Charmin - but they fail to mention in the advertising that they have also dropped the sheets per roll from 242 to 190! Profiting off hunger: Wall Street makes big gains over food price spikes The year 2013 may see another price hike, following the worst draught in the US in 50 years and poor harvests in Russia and Ukraine. The UN has warned that the world may be approaching a major hunger crisis. At the same time, the industry is bringing millions in profits to those who rushed to invest in food. Goldman Sachs made an estimated $400 million in 2012 from investing its clients' money in a range of "soft commodities," from wheat and maize to coffee and sugar, according to an analysis by the World Development Movement (WDM). "While nearly a billion people go hungry, Goldman Sachs bankers are feeding their own bonuses by betting on the price of food. Financial speculation is fueling food price spikes and Goldman Sachs is the No, 1 culprit," Christine Haigh of the WDM. Deregulation in the late 1990s allowed financial institutions to bet on food prices, resulting in some $200 billion being poured into the market. For example, hedge fund Armajaro virtually single-handedly sent the global price of cocoa to a 33-year high in July 2010 by buying around 15 percent of global cocoa stocks. [link to rt.com] |

Decayed Meat Treated With Carbon Monoxide To Make It Look Fresh At The Grocery Most meat eaters may be unaware that more than 70% of all beef and chicken in the United States, Canada and other countries is being treated with poisonous carbon monoxide gas. It can make seriously decayed meat look fresh for weeks. The meat industry continues to allow this toxic gas injection into many of the meat products people consume on a daily basis. The question is, how many people have become ill by this chemically altered meat that is being sold to families all over the world? Carbon monoxide (often referred to as CO) is a colorless, odorless, tasteless gas, one measly oxygen molecule away from the carbon dioxide we all exhale. But that one molecule makes a big difference in that it does very, very bad things to the human body at very, very low concentrations. CO is toxic because it sticks to hemoglobin, a molecule in blood that usually carries oxygen, even better than oxygen can. When people are exposed to higher levels of CO, the gas takes the place of oxygen in the bloodstream and wreaks havoc. Milder exposures mean headaches, confusion, and tiredness.
