Here's one to touch your heart
From Karmatube:

"At age 13, Shelby Grebenc is a seasoned farmer - the youngest to receive an Animal Welfare Seal of Approval for the 135 chickens she raises. She began her business at age 9, with a loan from her grandmother, to help her family stave off homelessness when her mother became bedridden with multiple sclerosis. Although she wasn't told how close to bankruptcy the family was due to her mother's nursing home bills, Shelby saw that her father was sad and decided she needed to help."

Re: Coffee Klatch
Sit Happens
Timber Hawkeye has a very simple guide to happiness - 2 words: be grateful. Gratitude turns what we have into enough. In this TEDx talk, Hawkeye observes that all of our suffering is self-inflicted, and that we have a misguided notion that happiness is something we have to "pursue." He shares some simple prescriptions for inner peace and tranquility: slow down, sit. There is nothing you need to buy; nowhere you need to go. Just spend a few minutes each day taking inventory of everything in your life that is worth appreciating.

Re: Coffee Klatch
Martha uses this recipe
Dawn dish soap-1 tablespoon per medium load. Pour 1/4+ cup of salt in with it.

Ingredients for Miracle Cleaner:
1 part Dawn Dishwashing Liquid (the original blue kind)
2 parts Hydrogen Peroxide
Mix together and pour directly on the stain.
[link to moderndaymoms.com]

I've used this before when money was tight and it actually works quite well. I would wash a medium load on the large setting with warm water.

She also was on tv other morning says 6 minutes is long enough to wash anything.
Do you guys put a dry towel in dryer with wet clothes? Works great 1/2 the time to dry a load.

Here's some more great tips I taped a copy by the washer

Thanks AKO. I've never put a dry towel in, but I have put a wet towel in a dryer with wrinkled clothes. It does take out any wrinkles that set in. My kids were famous for leaving their clothes in the dryer for DAYS!LOL

Just read thru all the pages with your new dog! Glad you are going to keep her. You have not had any down time in the past month thats for sure!

We also have a part pit part boxer maybe???? that found its way into our neighborhood, the two neighbors next door are taking turns with it and we are trying to find his owner. He is also very sweet, good with kids and maybe 2 or 3. He had a red collar when he first appeared, but now its gone and nobody can find it. We posted on craigslist and put up signs, but no luck so far.

Hey Flav! I wondered where you were. I thought maybe another show. You aren't having trouble with your new computer, are you?

Sounds like your pit mix was doing what Buddy does once a year. Goes on vacation! I didn't realize, until this year, that Buddy runs away for a week or so the EXACT time every year. I got his notice from the vet's for his shots while he was gone this year. He got the shots last year when he finally came home. How weird is that!?! Maybe your visitor was just looking for better food!

yup same here!

Besides, I was so busy it was great. So here is what I am finding, I do better when my soap partner isnt around. She is very nice, but odd. She doesnt really have people skills. When a customer comes into the booth and were talking, I figured she would be quiet and we would work the sale, but she keeps right on talking in conversation, and I have to be rude and ignore her and start to deal with the customer who probably then thinks I am rude. She is also just a sort of negative person, and gives off those vibes. I was alone on friday and sold 3 times more stuff than on saturday when there were two of us.

Dont get me wrong, shes nice, but I am the dominant person and she is very passive. Its like I am the boss and she an employee, (not that I mind that)being the type A that I am, but she just never has a sense of urgency and I am one of those who is always early to everything, she is the type that will get there when I get there.

She does behind the scene stuff but isnt good at picking coloring or scent, and doesnt know how to make pretty soaps but she does know how to make good soaps. I like mine to be both.

I am thinking I am gonna branch off some on my own since I do more for this business than she does, and still work with her on stuff, but if I go to networking meetings, make the contacts, make the sale, make the product, why should I split the proceeds?

Shes got a different mindset for where she wants the little business to go, than I do, so I will do the craft stuff with her, but put my own foot forward for the bridal, baby showers etc... shes not even excited about that stuff like I am.

So... I am also going to pound the pavement in a few weeks to get stuff in stores, but I am going to insist she does too if she wants to be part of that.

All that being said, I hooked up with a photographer and marketer at one of the networking meeting, and I am going to trade product for services, and the photographer has an ad going in some mother to be magazine and is going to use my soaps to shoot her photos, so I am making baby shower soaps all week to get some good stuff for the shoot, and I dont have to pay for the ad but she is going to list the company and website in exchange for the shoot. We are hoping to get some package deals of purchase soaps for the shower and then a photo shoot of the baby once born for X amt, depending on what they want.

NO!!! you are NOT being a shitty partner. I HAD a shitty partner when I owned a gift/candy shop. You are NOT it!! Honey, the very best thing you can do is shut down your partnership and go your own way. If you need help at the shows, find someone to hire for the day. I was lucky, my kids were still young so I had relatively free labor.

When we shut down the store, I ended up getting stuck with ALL the bills. I had to pay for the last orders of stock, the taxes, I payed out the sign and the swiper. She was supposed to pay half, but never did. THEN, she had the NERVE to open up again a year ago. She shut down after about 6 monthes. Everyone in town knew what kind of person she was and didn't shop there. She had a store before the one we opened together and I found out, too late, that she had tons of bills from that one, too. It was a nightmare, but I wish I had start up for another business. It would be totally different from the last one. Our area doesn't support local business much, though, so it's probably good that I don't right now. Maybe if I win the lottery some day!LOL Bingo doesn't pay out enough!

Seriously, if you two aren't a good fit, go your own way. Cut the ties to her soon. The longer you wait, the harder it is. Kind of like divorce.

Ha a divorce, never had one thank god! Its not that I dont like her, but I took it upon myself to do the website cause shes not got good comunication skills, and I took on the sales tax, business type stuff, which I hate doing but I was afraid she may not and I dont want govt breathing down my neck. Her idea of drumming up business is giving out free samples over and over again, she was doing this before we hooked up and then wanted me to do it to with the business and I put my foot down and said no, she still does it with her supplies at home. She keeps telling me nobody has money for soap, they all work for 12 an hour, my reply was why should they buy soap from you when you keep giving it to them for free??? Thats why all the soap we make is kept here at my house. Pete thinks I should part ways too, but I really dont want to give up the company, I want to keep the name and stuff. She is so laid back that she probably wont care if I do stuff on my own, just how she is, which I must admit at times is appealing to me.

I guess it will all get sorted out one way or another. She has this grand dream that when people use our soap they will think its so much better and we will be an overnight sensation or something with no marketing of anything! crazy.

You wouldn't have to give up the business name, you'd have to have some legal stuff drawn up though. She's have to sign over her rights to the name and the business as it is now. She can still do her own thing. It doesn't sound like she'd be any competition to you. You might have to buy out her share, but if she's not doing much, it should work out ok.

I liked my partner, too, until she pulled her pranks after we had to close down. Now, I'm glad I don't run into her fakeness much! You know, it's not going to happen without a lot of hard work. My partner had similar pie in the sky ideas. She worked the shop a couple of hours in the morning and I was there late almost every night. We tried to showcase really good, local crafters and artists. I had a workroom set up in the back to make things to sell. She never did, except some really crappy bead stuff. You've done the shows, you know what kind I mean.

Re: Coffee Klatch
Thank you TB. I think I just feel kind of bad for her. She doesnt have a clue and thinks of me as some sort of god or something.

Re: Coffee Klatch
probably right about the partner thing, I will figure it out at some point.

I think what I like about her is her lack of ambition, in a weird sort of way. We discussed this back in the beginning, and we spoke our goals, hers was to make Gaia sucessful and be able to quit her job and work for me.

Gaia isnt the soap company that we share, its mine.
I have to admit, she has always pushed my stuff and not worried about selling just soap or anything even though there was no gain for her, thats why I think I am having a hard time with it. She actually meant what she said and her actions show it.

So.. since nothing is going on in the way of shows, I am gonna sit status quo for now. We even spoke about her not doing the shows with me, I hurt her feelings a little but she was ok with it. I guess she cant help that she doesnt have any creativity, although she did make the gift baskets look nice for the christmas shows.

She makes soap, she will wrap it if I tell her to or label it, etc.. She just doesnt make pretty soap, she tries, but she has a heavy hand. Think like putting eyeliner on with one of those really large crayons for kindergarden kids! My lines are thin and pretty and hers are more like globs. She can do one color soaps or herb soaps, but other than that she has a problem with it.

I do all the ordering cause I am frugal and she sees it buys it and then looks at the price. We made a deal that she would tell me what shes out of and I would order it. She was paying 3x more than me for frag oil when I met her and it wasnt any better than what I use, as a matter of fact some of it lost its scent within a week.

We are going to donate a bunch of soap to the soldiers angels.
