It was my turn for something to break. 3yo Computer Monitor. I searched and it was a common problem for my Samsung. Someone had posted a detailed disassemble guide with pictures and the capacitors that needed to be replaced on the circuit board. $20 in parts and good to go. Still can't believe I actually fixed it and with upgraded parts!

It was for the geek friend that built laptops for fun. Probably under 20 min. If I tried it would be trash. The LCD panels are dirt cheap and pretty generic commodity electronics IF you can get a good deal on the labor for installation.

Looks like I missed everyone. We have been working with the foster daughter getting her room fixed up. I told her after more than a year it was time to get her clothes out of boxes and into the dresser and hung up in the closet. The closet and dresser have always been there, but she never really unpacked. I think it made her feel good to settle in. We also bought her a brand new full size bed. Brought it home all wrapped up in plastic. She was really shocked, she has not had many "new" things. Really puts things in perspective for our kids.

We are not official foster parents. She is not a ward of the state. Oregon will let a teenager live in deplorable conditions. Once a child is over the age of 12, if they aren't being physically or sexually abused, they are pretty much on their own. Unless they get into trouble and end up in the court system. Our youngest daughter brought her home to spend a few days, about a year and a half ago. Her family had been evicted from their apartment, her mom is a felon and has drug/alcohol issues. So, here we are. We are learning as we go.

I don't know if I'm a hero, but I couldn't send her back to those conditions. We had some real bumps along the way. We have set rules, non negotiable on school, checking in, etc. She had some adjustments to make because I don't think there were any rules for her growing up. Her mom was not a role model in any sense of the word.

That is great SO! I had the same thing with Alex and he is still here 4 yrs later.

He is back in school earning his degree and working full time. He has always been a good kid, so I didnt have any issues with him and we always joke that hes the good son, cause he never forgets to take out the garbage.

He also has a girlfriend that he is pretty serious about now, so we hardly see him anymore. He does school a few days a week in the mornings, works 3-midnight and were asleep when he gets home. On his days off he stays with the girlfriend who is really nice too. She just graduated nursing school and is working at one of the hospitals here in the pediatric trauma unit.

That is so great for Alex! I hope our little bird does well in life too. She has a lot to make up in school. It was never a priority in her household. I keep telling her to stay with it and that she will probably get grants for college. It helps that our youngest graduated last year and is going to the community college, it sets a good example. It seems they take advice better from their own age group.
