Just got back from Lubbock. Levelland and North Lubbock are getting some rain. It's not at the house yet. Lightning is all around. We're supposed to get hail with the wind and rain, but thankfully, no real severe weather! I hope it doesn't stay north again.

Hey Weathergirl :) It rained here yesterday - everyone is so happy when it rains! Some of the reservoir lakes are really low now. Woke up to snow this morning - not alot but everything is covered - it's beautiful. The sun is trying to breakthrough with morning orange light on the clouds. . .

The sun has been out and it's in the mid 60's so we are working on cleaning up the garden beds. I'm itching to start planting. We can put in leafy greens, peas, and cool weather crops very soon.

Hubs and I just had our birthdays. We are two years apart but our birthdays are only 4 days apart. We decided with all the hard work we have been doing that we deserved a nice meal out. Went over to Grants Pass to this beautiful restaurant right on the river. A little spendy, but hey we deserve a little treat, right? So we called up his longtime friend and met him and his new wife for lunch last Sunday. Ya, the treat was food poisoning. Hit me and his friend both. We both had sandwiches so I'm thinking the aoli was a bit off or something. I always think you get food poisoning from a dive...haha, it is at the fancy places too! On the upside, I lost a few pounds.

Hi, guys! Thought I'd better check in and give you the baby update...so far. It's going to be hit and miss for me catching y'all for a couple of weeks. We'll find out all the final details next Monday, but it looks like little K will be born next Tuesday. Dil goes on Monday for another ultra-sound to see the baby's position and depending on that, they'll either induce labor or do a c-section on Tuesday. I've got one afghan finished last night and one in progress, but that one is for Easter, so I have a little extra time!LOL I got the flannel yesterday for the burp towels, too.

We had Em's birthday this last weekend. That's where I've been. She's grown SO much since Christmas! The poor thing is cutting her last set of molars, too.

On top of it all, I bought some things to plant! I've got hostas and caladiums to put in a shady area I've wanted to brighten up for a long time, some peonies AND...I finally found rhubarb before June!!! Those are going closer to the house this time. I had 9 plants that were on their 3rd year. They died from broad leaf defoliant drift off of the field. I was NOT a happy camper that year! The raspberries seem to be ok, they survived the awful winds the last 2 days. It's going to be really nice this week and hubs is working overnights this week, so working outside will work out this week. The ground is still soft (sort of) from the snow the other week. I'm hoping to get the ground ready to plant my peas and beets and the rest of the spring veggies.

SO....if you don't see me here, you'll know what I'm up to! Makin' mudpies for awhile!!

The garden bug seems to be hitting all of us. The caladium has such pretty foliage. I've been looking for Trilium, but it's so darn hard to find. I just heard about a rare plant nursery that is supposed to have a booth at the Master Gardener Spring Sale next month so I'm hoping they have some.

Im at the point where if I cant eat it I dont plant it.

I hear you, Flav. I'm mostly that way, myself. It's so hard to get anything going down here, with the droughts and all. I need to put those hostas in because the dark spot is right in the front of our north window. When it rains that spot turns boggy and it takes awhile to dry out. Maybe boggy isn't the right word, but when it does rain down here, it really rains! I admit the peonies are just a treat for myself! I had some really nice ones in Holland and my gram had them. I just need a little piece of home. I hope they grow.

We are going to replace the dead elms with fruit trees. I've been looking locally for dwarfs or semi dwarfs, but no luck this year. I wonder if they just didn't do well here. Now that I think about it, I haven't seen them for some time.

may have some recommendations for varieties suited for your area.
We had these in our orchard and they really produced if we protected the blooms from the inevitable late freeze.
apricot, cherry, white peach, cling & cling-free peaches,plums. Pecans do well with the deep, sandy soil and there are some good-sized orchards I've seen on 1585. Get peaches from different nurseries as some ripen early and late so it spreads their season.
I had a milk cow so we made LOTS of ice cream from all the fruit and froze what we couldn't eat.

Thanks Hard Eight! Pecans do really well here. There are orchards all OVER the place, if you know where to look! Peaches too.

I would love to have a milk cow, but I've never had large animals before. We've got an acre out back, but I'd have to buy too much hay, I think. I've been trying to talk hubs into a couple of goats for years, but, no luck yet. I settled on goats because they're smaller than a cow! I'd have to get a donkey/mule to babysit them, though. Too many coyotes.

I was looking for the smaller trees so I could take care of them easier. I really don't like heights!LOL I told my husband yesterday, I guess it really won't matter too much if we get standard size trees. By the time they are too tall, we'll be too old to care much!LOL They'll be someone else's problem!

Not sure about goats, but my Jersey had to be milked twice a day, rain or shine and the school bus came at 6am. Family of 7 couldn't drink the 5 gallons a day so cats, kittens and hogs helped out.
Peaches usually don't get very tall but the mature apricot, plum and cherry trees were 20'.

Goats don't produce near that much milk, but they do have to be milked at least once a day. It's been a long time since I read up on them, so it could be twice. My friend back home has goats and I think they milk just once.

I wouldn't know what to do with all that cow's milk, since all of our kids are gone and not close to home. The cats would love it though! I always buy goats milk for the mommas and the kittens, though. It's really good for the babies.

I think I could live with 20' trees. The trees in Ohio get a LOT taller! That's why I was think probably semi-dwarf trees. I don't think they are as sturdy, though. I want a couple of apple trees, too. They don't do as well here, but they DO grow and produce. I always forget to get over to the orchards in Idalou to pick them! Peaches, cherries, plums are what I want!! I don't like persimmons, so not planting that. People are starting to plant fig trees here, too, but I think they have to be in pots and brought in when it gets cold. We don't have a good, protected area here to leave it out. If we had a privacy fence, I might consider it, 'cause we love figs!

I love goat cheese. Not that I want goats, I've got my hands full as it is!

I've only had the store bought kind and some of it was good, but most, I didn't care for. I've been told homemade is the best. Lots of hispanic ladies here make it. I figure if I only get a couple, I could handle that. I almost talked hubs into some pygmies, but we have to put up the fence again and get the donkey, too. I'm working on it!LOLOL

I dont like goat cheese, but tonight pete made quiche, broc and cheddar. Yesterday he made a swiss, guyere sp?? and ham, had a slice, got home from work and there was one slice left, the kids chowed down on it, so he ate the last peice and made one with veggies thinking it would be safe, half of its gone and it came out of the oven less than half an hour ago.


I made liposomal serum with peptides and sea algea. Cant wait to try it tomorrow and see how it is. I have so much other stuff on my face right now I cant use it tonight.

I have been on a serum formulating mission! I made a vit B hydrating acne serum and gave it to 3 of my daughters friends who have acne and got rave reviews from them all. One of them is gonna host a party for me cause they all want to buy some. I am hoping to get the party thing off the ground and then get someone else to run them for me. I like to be home at night with the hubby

Out here they use goats for vegetation control, they even eat the poison oak!
