Thanks been trying to educate my customers for years unfortunately many don't seem to care wanting instant gratification will buy big box store plants then bitch when they don't produce, hold up, have bugs. They turn a blind eye to what they are growing to feed the family and what is happening with cross pollination. Tracy isn't just a wonderful vet, she's a terrific person, too! Have you seen her cats? I forget the breed. I'll ask tomorrow. She has one that she clips in the summer to look like a small lion! The cats are HUGE!

As much as we, out in the sticks, get animals dumped, Tracy gets even more of them. The shelter in Smyer is full and people take all kind of animals to Tracy to find homes for. She spays/neuters them, treats whatever ails them, and then, gives them away. The vets on 114 are really good, too, but they do mostly farm animals. I like to watch their prairie dog when I've gone there. They do treat small animals, but I just like Tracy better.

I'm getting my chicks this year, no matter what. I'm more worried about Buddy bothering them. I'm not free ranging them, so we should be ok. What kind of chickens did your dad have? The last ones I had were an unknown breed I got from our neighbors. The fil had fighting chickens and when the state outlawed them, his wife told him to get rid of them. I had 4 hens and 1 rooster until the hens got too old to lay. My neighbors took them, I was afraid to ask what they were going to do with them. They were too dang tough to eat!

This is such good info. I was so disappointed when Territorial Seeds started using Monsanto seeds and starts. I really was crushed. When we first started using them they were all about heirloom seeds and starts. Just goes to show how mighty the dollar is.

I forgot but yes I've seen those giant cats on the same visit I saw a teacup chihuahua that fit in your palm. Our chickens were mostly the typical white leghorns. We ate all kinds of eggs. Duck, goose, Guinea, turkey and pheasant. Had peacocks also. A regular zoo..ha. Geese are great guard watchers and strangers that drove up were reluctant to get out until we called them off.
Our guinea's were smaller and tougher against predators, weather and disease.

Well. we just finally made it back from the vet's! A 10:45 appointment turned into an 11:45 one! They close at noon, but I don't think so today! Lot's of small emergencies! One poor dog got into it with a porcupine last night. He had quills all around his mouth. His owner's were able to pull some of the out last night, but it got too painful for him. They got the rest out today while we were there.

Doggie didn't have a chip or tattoo and the vet didn't recognize her. I thought when we got there, that maybe they would. Dog seemed to know the place. Tracy seemed to think she was a dump off dog and we should just keep her. Way more animals are being dumped off than before. Hubs took a couple of pics of her on his phone. I think we'll make a flyer to put up at the gin, if they'll let us. She might belong to someone around here that we don't know. He'll probably put her on his fb page, too.

Hard Eight, no way am I getting ducks or geese!LOLOL They'd fly over to our neighbors pond. I'm not much of a fan anyway. When I was little, our neighbors got 2 geese for Easter. We were about 5 0r 6 years old. They were MEAN suckers! This year, I'll stick to chickens. Maybe next year, I'll try guineas. I'd love a peacock, but they wouldn't like it here much. I'm not sure I'd like their "noises" either!LOL

Is it April yet!?!

Oh sorry, forgot to type that one! Yeah, she's just in heat. I couldn't ask too many questions today. The office was completely swamped! We waited an hour just to be seen. They were that far behind. Those ladies were jobbin' it!

One of the other "parent's" thought she might be part hound, besides the german shephard. I was thinking that on the trip in to town. She's about 3 years old. I wasn't too far off from that one, I was thinking about 5 or 6. You should see her poop! It's really HORSE size!! I've had some big dogs before, but WOW! Never this big!

It was so good of you to take her in TB. I wrote a long, philosophical reply but know you guys have to be sick of the rambling, so I'll just come out and ask if my feeling that maybe hubs or you are having second thoughts about keeping her are right? I hope not, but can understand if you are.

Ramble away, if you want! I'm not having second thoughts, I just really think she might belong to someone close by. Tracy didn't seem to think so, but she's such a good dog. If she were mine, I'd want to know where she was. Someone bathed and trimmed her toenails recently, too. BUT...she didn't have her tag. She had the ring it was on, but no tag. It wouldn't have just fallen off, either. I looked at it better today, when I was putting on the new rabies tag. We have to try to find her owner, but I'm keeping her! I think she was dumped off, mostly, but I just have a hard time understanding the people that do it. I wouldn't.

I don't think hubs really wants to get rid of her either. We wouldn't have spent almost 3 hours at the vets if he knew she wasn't staying. Besides, he KNOWS better!!!LOL He's brought me strays that I didn't want before, so this time, it's my turn! It's ok, doggie is safe and loved.

There's more going on here right now that I can't put out on the web. We're fine, but some family members are having trouble. Not baby K, they're fine. We're just ready for this week to be over!

My dear, sweet friend! First off, doggie IS home now. I don't think we'll find her old owners, but I will try...to a point. Part of me is angry. She would be a great friend to someone, had the owners taken the time to look. I felt that way when Mattie, my Westie, showed up too.

We have had a couple of dogs dumped that we had to take to the pound. One was born with a deformed leg and wouldn't survive out here. We took her to Tracy, thinking it was a broken leg, but nothing could've been done. She went to the no-kill shelter. She was still there last year, at least, because she was in a story on the news about the place. Some of the dogs don't/won't stay, for whatever reason. I've had the same problem with cats. I think they try to go home.

The vet's office has a notebook for lost and found animals and maybe that's why hubs took the pics. We really didn't have too much time to talk. He took most of yesterday off to play with the amazing Em and then this took forever. He'll be working late tonight to make up for it.

One time, years ago, we even had a horse show up!! I WOULD have like to keep that one!LOL The owners drove all over looking for him! Darn! I don't have much luck whispering to horses like I do with dogs, cats and cows!

Well, it must just be my mood then, because right now I'm having a hard time keeping the tears wiped away after reading your post. I thank God every day for people like you. That she's in heat and probably a nuisance to someone right now, makes me doubt that an owner is looking for her. If that was my dog, I'd have reported her to every agency possible, contacted radio stations, put ads in newspapers for miles and counties around, hung pictures all over towns, and be scouring those roads in search of her. I think you'd have heard something. I'm so thankful she's got someone who appreciates her for who she is.

Can you post the picture here that hubs took? I hope you give him an extra big hug for being a real sport about it. He sounds like an awesome guy. Your sweet girl has a fine home with loving parents.

Re: Coffee Klatch
I'm going to figure out how to post her pic in the next couple of days. It's just got to calm down around here! I'll have him e-mail it to me and then I'll see about posting it. I've never done it before, but I'll read the FAQ's later to figure it out. Maybe I'll make her my avatar! I've never been able to find one I really like. When you guys see her, you can help me figure out a name, if I haven't come up with one by then!

Oh YAY! Will be looking forward to seeing her. Bet you're going to feel a lot safer at night with her there too. Regardless of how nice they seem, they don't tolerate someone messing with their loved ones.

Going to have to get moving here. You have no idea...well, maybe you do have an idea of how happy you've made this day. Hugs to you! KTNFRND

AAWWW...I haven't seen that smilie in forever!! It's one of my favorites, too!

Ok, guys....absolutely NO tears! We're good, really! I have to get going, too. The wind is finally starting up. The cold front is late. Too bad, too. It WAS a really pretty day. I was hoping they were wrong about the forecast. Guess not.

Hey, quick question. I have to make more laundry soap. Have any of you tried the one with Dawn dish soap in it? Was thinking of trying it.

Have not tried Dawn yet! Would like to know how that comes outif you do try it! I've got my Fels Naptha bar ready to go! LOL

Re: Coffee Klatch
I saw it on another thread. I'll look for it later. I think I'll make a small batch and I'll let you know. I just don't want to make the big batch of fels and naptha right now.

Here's recipe I copied from the thread who's title I can't remember!

3 Tbsp. Borax
3 Tbsp Washing Soda
2 Tbsp Dawn

Put ingredients in GAL. jug. Pour 4 cups boiling water into jug. Stir until dissolved. Let cool.

Fill jug almost to top with cold water. Bubbles will flow out of bottle.

Sounds kind of messy, but it's just a gallon. If it doesn't work, no big loss. I finally used up the big batch of the other that I made last year! I'll let you all know how it works out.
