They really are a mess. All of the dead wood should be taken out routinely. There's so much to managing healthy, sustainable forests and letting it go isn't the answer. Not when people are around. Not when the fires get to 50,000 acres.

Happy Anniversary SO! Who cares how many years as long as most have been happy. Were gonna be 29 this December and thankfully most have been happy years.

Mama... What a nice way to celebrate your back to school, make sure to either take the phone or turn it off, nothing worse than the phone ringing and either getting out to answer it or letting it ring and then worrying about who it was, really screws up a relaxing bath.

As for the lunch ladies, it got to be a thing for years, they would come over to my table every day to see what I had. I think those two ladies had some sort of bets going as to what was in the bag now that I am an adult. I can still picture those two ladies like they are standing next to me. I guess they made a bigger impact on me than I ever realized as a kid.

I sure hope Eazy D is gonna be safe overseas with all the crap going on, I have thought about that a lot lately.

Of course there will be Flava soaps involved too!

Yes, I hope he stays safe as he said he was traveling alone!!!!

TB- Looks like rain for you this morning!

No rain so far, but it did storm around us last night. The lightning was reddish-orange. Strange color. I hope it stays clear tonight for the meteor shower.

We had the very best day today!! The amazing Em and her mom and dad are here for the weekend. We met them at the hotel very late last night. We all met this noon at the hotel to go swimming, even the babies. I had ALL my kids together today. We went to lunch at our Italian restaurant across the street. It was wonderful. We got Em a floaty thing that had a seat with holes for her legs. She's not too sure about pools yet. The last time, she screamed bloody murder, but she didn't give me the death grip! This time I was ready for her. LOLOL I had a life vest, the penquin float thing, AND a new bubble guppy doll that goes in the water!! Her hair changes color when it gets wet and cold. No tears and her mom and I even had her blowing bubbles in the water. We tried to get her to kick, but she just wouldn't relax enough. By the end, she was really trying to work out how to do that swimming thing the rest of us were doing!!

Little baby K floated around until she got cold, then her other grandma took her into the hot tub. It wasn't turned on, but the water was warmer. She fell asleep in her little infant float.

I wish y'all could've seen them all. The babies were hugging and kissing each other and my 2 oldest were picking on each other, just like they used to. Everyone did better than just behave, they all had fun. It was the best!

Must of been wonderful to have all the babies together as well as your sons! Not to mention having fun!

Hi, mama! It was SO much fun. I think they wore me out, though. I just caught myself dozing off will I was scrolling around! It was such a wonderful day!

Oh hon, I know you do! I saw your plans for first day of school! LOL I hope you do it. That sound like heaven to me! I hope our new house has a decent bath tub and not just a shower. I miss bubbles.

What a great day with the family being all together!

We spent the weekend at a hotel up on the river. It was nice to be away from the smoke for a bit. We had some thunderstorms though. 3am Saturday morning and the sky just lit up and the thunder was wall shaking. We did get to see some of the meteor shower after it was over. Nothing like being up for a few hours in the middle of the night. We went to a neighbor boy's wedding on Saturday night. It stormed then as well. Poor kids had a beautiful place rented right on the river with a great outdoor area...ya, it poured and we had thunder. Made the best of it though. They had the ceremony under the patio and we all found trees to shelter under. It did clear off after about 2 hours, but by then hubs and I were wet and cold so we headed back to the motel. The motel was pretty cool, we had a patio that looked over the river. It was old - think 70's style, but a great location. Not bad for $80 a night on the river.

Thank you for telling us about her, Mama, and congrats on your wonderful job with her. You've given her what she needs and she will spend her entire life repaying you. You've got a very fine Shepherd and Big Bear has a wonderful new home and family to protect and love. So very happy for all of you.

Thanks TB. Think I won't be adding them yet. Hosta's are toxic to dogs, cats, and horses due to the saponins and alkaloids that can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and depression. Though they don't usually hurt adults, they can affect children.

Like foxglove, there are some really good medicinal qualities in hostas that need more research.

I'd do your own research on any plant you're considerig, including how to prepare them to eliminate/reduce toxins, before deciding to eat them.

I KNEW you'd know!! I don't mess with foxglove, but I've not had any trouble with hostas and my critters. Good thing they have good, animal common sense! LOL

It is good that many animals seem to know. I don't let horses around them because a horse has a far more delicate system than dogs or cats and can't vomit.

I wouldn't try them during your moving process.....or, wait a sec. You might be able to delegate a lot more work if......nah, nevermind. Bad idea.

Sometimes it's better to wait about being adventurous. On following one of the links on the thread you gave, it's listed them as a culinary plant, BUT when you go to the link, it then said, "The parts eaten and the manner of preparation differ depending on the species; in some cases it is the shoots, others the leaf petiole, others the whole leaf. Younger parts are generally preferred as being more tender than older parts. The flowers are also edible." Then, the part you need to pay attention to is : [citation needed]


On another link it is listed as safe. It's not on the GRAS list. (generally regarded as safe). Little things like that. Also, the species, time of year, what stage of development, how it's prepared. Blanket statements are sometimes ok. Other times they can cause a great deal of misery.

Like strawberry. Strawberry leaf tea is awesome. The leaves are safe fresh, and dried. At the in between stage, as they are drying, a toxin develops that can cause a great deal of harm. When totally dry, the toxin is gone.

Anyway, yeah, I know. Delegate. Sounds good in theory. In practice, it's often not real effective. HAHAHA. Take care of yourself and don't push yourself too hard. Things will wait. 8)

I didn't think it was normally considered edible. I just think they're pretty in the right groupings.

I'm not pushing too hard yet. We're only taking some things at first and will make trips back to pick up others. Most things will stay here anyway, for youngest to use. Heaven knows we've got too much of a lot of things anyway. We still have duplicates from when hubs was in New Mexico. We've given a lot of it away, but there's still enough. Plus, a lot needs replacing due to age, so it's perfect for a bachelor pad! LOL

Good plan, TB. Really good! Just leave the word "yet" off the "I'm not pushing too hard." LOL.

Now, you know it's going to get busy. It has to. Next week, though. I can't pack most of it until then, we're still using it! LOL

All 7 of them! There were 8 of them but one died. I guess she had them sometime last night so I don't know if it was stillborn or it died.

I guess Pinky is going to leave us tomorrow. That's sad but he's a big pig, about 300 lbs
