Let me get this straight - you are forming your opinion off of what you call scientific fact, even though it has never been proven as a birth defect? You are absolutely right, these kids need our help, but not the help you subscribe to where you ignore what is wrong with them and allow them to continue on with a false sense of pride in being "different" and "special". They have a mental illness that HAS been proven to be corrected with specialized counseling and gender development. You want to ignore the greater problem here, which is that most of these children were not born with this - the problem developed as the result of social or parental stimuli - such as living in a single parent home with no proper interpersonal relationship development, family dysfunction, sexual abuse, etc. You would rather lie to the child and tell them that they are fine just the way there are, when it is clear they are not. Your moral indifference and blind apathy will only bring these kids more suffering, because they will never fit in anywhere as long as they are lied to and told there is nothing wrong with them. You are part of the problem, and you will continue to hurt these kids as long as you are emotionally dishonest with them. Criticism sucks, got it - but it is necessary for us to develop, ALL of us.

True transsexuality is quite rare, isn't it? There may be some fake trans people who just want publicity, but there can't surely be that many people who really believe they were born into the wrong body. The few people who really do have the problem deserve our sympathy. It must feel awful to think you're in the wrong body. I can't imagine what such a thing would feel like!

Sympathy, however, doesn't mean they have the right to use my washroom. If they have a dick, they don't belong in my private space, so they'd better get to a surgeon and have the offending body part taken off. then they're welcome to come in, but only then.

I really don't have the time to look up all of these articles, but what I can see so far is that almost every article is based on hormone imbalances and steroidal/hormonal treatment. If you are intending to state that gender identity disorder is based off of a hormonal imbalance, then why the need to validate this disorder as acceptable? Further, your articles fail to explain the effect that external stimuli such as social or family influences have on hormone levels, neurotransmitter efficacy, and brain development. I will concede that hormones play a part in gender confusion, if you will concede that there is an external stimulus component as well. Either way, they are NOT okay the way they are, they need help, and the subject of this article describes a very damaging response that will only further restrict them from recovery.

You touched on a very important aspect, not just to gender confusion, but also to homosexuality. Kids and young adults see the added attention that these "special" people get with their new-found orientation, and they want that attention as well. Add to that, the effect of peer pressure and the immoral desensitization by popular culture and the MSM, the decision to become gay or transgender is almost forced upon them, otherwise they are labeled a homophobe and ostracized in much the same way they claim they are victims of. This is a culture of corruption, and it is sickening to see.

It is not a disorder and you will see that is being aptly pulled from the DSM 5 as a term. As a poster above pointed out it is very rare and yes..."true transsexuals" are approximately .01% of the overall total population.

I will agree that there may actually be an external stimuli component involved with SOME individuals that fall under the "transgender" umbrella term. I personally approach that term as a pronoun in practice. The actual "transgender" community makes up a small percentage of society to begin with and "true transsexuals" (those with the strong potential of having a hormonal imbalance in utero) make up an even smaller percentage of just the "Transgender" Community.

I do think there is still a lot of education and study to be put forth in deciding just who these individuals are and providing the appropriate course of treatment for them rather than lumping them into a one size fits all modality that does not truly address the root causality and I think that is starting to occur in the Psychiatric community.

I do not think ANY child that wishes to use the "bathroom" of their perceived Gender Identity should be restricted from being allowed that privilege as long as that child is getting adequate counseling and support, and there is the rub, how do we define "adequate counseling and support"?

Ancient Rome, China, Greece, Africa, even North America, everywhere you look throughout history you will find transgender behavior.

What I think the real issue here is that a very small percentage of individuals with apparent biological origins of gender disorder (hormonal imbalance) are being used by a growing percentage of individuals who have chosen to take on this transgender lifestyle, most notably in the form of homosexuality. It is these individuals who have demanded clearly provocative and controversial changes in order to seek the attention they crave, while the true transgendered kids want to hide from everyone.

I am also puzzled how you do not consider this a disorder, yet call for its treatment. Regardless what you call it, it is still a problem, and these kids would much rather live a normal life than suffer with this "condition". Forcing them to use a bathroom which will undoubtedly cause even more ridicule and emotional turmoil is not the right answer.

I predict an upsurge of teenage boys deciding they want to be transgender for a day or a week just so they can get in the girls locker room.

It is quite simple actually. I feel that we as a society need to finally come to grips with the absolute FACT that gender is NOT BINARY. Yes there are two cis-gendered ends of the spectrum but there is are people that do fit into the middle. An Intersexed person fits squarely in the middle. If you are going to deny Intersex conditions as being biological in nature then I cannot help you there.

Whether Gender variance is by nature or nurture should NOT be the argument. We were told to love ALL of god's creatures were we not? I think educating others on the beautiful diversity of our species should be our foremost concern.

As far as the whole bathroom issue goes...the UK has had Unisex bathrooms for as long as I can recall and I don't see a whole lot of issues that have arisen out of that as far as cis-modesty is concerned.
