40% of Americans Now Make Less Than 1968 Minimum Wage
This is both tragic and pathetic.

“If the minimum wage had risen in step with productivity growth [since 1968], it would be over $16.50 an hour today. That is higher than the hourly wages earned by 40 percent of men and half of women.” his means the gains went…somewhere else. See if you can guess who got them? (Hint: it’s the 1 percent; this is one driver of the terrible income and wealth inequality.) This breakoff of wages from productivity growth is partly the result of trade agreements that pit Americans against exploited workers in non-democracies. This weakened the bargaining power of unions, moved factories and industries out of the country, devastated entire regions of our country — and gave the giant multinational corporations, Wall Street and the billionaires the leverage they needed.

Ermm, maybe labor unions just made labor too expensive so corporations went after cheaper labor? And, if labor unions were so concerned about everyone's job, not just fattening their own pockets, maybe they would have used their muscle to get congress to impose some kind of tariffs to make imports as expensive as goods made in the US?

Maybe unions, and particularly their bosses, are liberal commie sellout shills.

You never go full-retard. Unions are at least a little bit look out for the workers, pay, insurance. I have worked many jobs and union ones were always a bit better than jobs without them. Self employed is the best way to go though.

Unless and until we THROW OFF these parasites, we will continue to be plunged into poverty and eventually sheer desperation.

Meanwhile, they will continue to be REWARDED for their evils, living in UNIMAGINABLE weatlh and luxury.

The ONLY good news, is that these people HAVE their reward here and now. The WILL have their place in the Lake of Fire.

you have to factor in how much of the productiviy growth can be contributed to technology.

No it's not dumb. It's right on the fucking money, except for the unions making labor too expensive part. Unions should have been doing alot of things, like organizing in Mexico with everything they had, and going to fucking war with the free traders. They sat on their hands instead.

That's true, and it should have resulted in higher wages not lower. If 100 men work in a factory and 90 of them are replaced by robots, the remaining 10 can make 9X more money and the company still comes out way ahead. And they should be making 9X more. Those 10 workers couldn't be replaced by robotics, that means their labor is valuable. Valuable labor demands valuable wages.

That is a false indicator because the rate is dependent on number of hours worked also and not just amount per hour. Raise it and hours get cut.

What about built in redundancy, after a war there is a busy reconstruction period and then a slowdown. Rather than businesses building a product that lasts 10 years instead of 50 they should just change the item produced every 10 years and have 5 products that they produce on a rotation basis. The idea is to have things to do for the people 'on time off' so it is not a burden.

In 1968 minimum wage was $1.60/hr
Today, minimum wage is $7.25/hr

In 1968, gold was 39.31/oz
Today, gold is 1580/oz

Therefore, at minimum wage..
In 1968, you'd have to work 25 hours to buy 1 oz of gold.
Today, you'd have to work 218 hours to buy 1 oz of gold.

Re: 40% of Americans Now Make Less Than 1968 Minimum Wage
For the last twenty years, since Clinton became president really, I have noticed how the American people are so brainwashed that they will not stand up for anything. They are too afraid that speaking out will end in them losing the benefits of being a mindful little sheep. GO along with the liberal doctrine and do not tell the truth. You could get kicked out of school, harassed at your job, fired from work and stalked by braindead college students who believe everything their shill professors tell them.

Harassment, stalking and threats are par for the course of the new liberal America. It costs money of course. Much more than any conservative government would even with two wars and a major disaster. Imagine that.

The threats extend to a complaceny in the American populace. I will take what I can because if I complain I could lose it all.

I am so tired of the BS but this is over and done with really. America needed to do something before this point. Now it is just the fall. That is all that is left because no one would tell the truth.

Live in fear and it only gets worse.
