Have anyone ever heard of the hamminasett line its a supposed ancient lay lie with man made stone structure on it running from Montauk long island to manitu island in Michigan upper peninsula not much on web about this one of the few strange thing here in new England I believe there solid evidence that what we taught in school is bull shit there are to many sites that prove other wise mystery hill NH, Gungywap New London CT both of these site have solstice alignments and are said to be built by Irish cudy monks there are a few sites that dive in to this subject ROCKPILES.COM in near by montville a dry masonry tunnel and chambers have been found that show high levels of craftsmanship they were certainly not built by the colonists. Nor where built as root cellars as the history books say i wish them told us this stuff in school being that is area is very rich in history .

Re: ancient stone structures of new england
Personally, I think most of those sites were built during the colonial era in the late 1600s - mid 1700s.

It's called New England after all. Most of the colonists were from the British Isles and kept up the traditions that were commonplace there until the Industrial Revolution.

But romantics like to say they're much older and go back thousands of years...that maybe some Celtic monks came to the New World centuries ago...

I'm skeptical.

Re: ancient stone structures of new england
food for thought why would people come there and expend so much time and energy to construct these stone chamber there are no doors that close or vents and so on. Not used for food storage who do u keep animals out. There all very small to with the exception of the boxbourgh MA chamber. The niantic and Narragansett lice in sod and long houses. Ever heard of the solutrean culture of France the arrow heads they made are very close to the Clovis Indian arrowheads there are many facts to dispute these claims.
