Aristide Torchia User ID: 29901291 Switzerland 02/22/2013 11:23 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Thanks Torchia was born in 1620. He was apprenticed in Leyden under the Elzevir family. After returning to Venice he published small works on philosophical and esoteric themes. In 1666, Torchia published De Umbrarum Regni Novem Portis (The Nine Doors to the Kingdom of Shadows), which was in turn based on the Delomelanicon, or Invocation of Darkness, a work supposedly written by Lucifer and that would allow the reader to summon devils. The Inquisition condemned Torchia for magic and witchcraft and burned him at the stake in 1667. |

The deluge inundated basements and forced authorities to close underpasses and a central subway station. The fire department said it had received at least 600 calls to drain water from houses and businesses. Many of the city's streets remain ankle-deep in water. "It was one of the worst thunderstorms we have ever had in the greater Athens area [since 1961]," fire department chief Sotiris Georgakopoulos told NET state television. At one point the rainfall was so intense that parked cars were swept away by racing waters. "There are cars immobilised on several Athens highways and we have dispatched tow trucks to clear the roads," senior traffic police officer Dimitris Papanagiotou told NET. Fire chiefs say that they have about 60 crews tackling the floods which they expect to recede throughout Friday. No injuries have been reported. As if they were already not in misery, now more destruction comes their way. Or perhaps all this will give rise to more economic activity. In any case, our Bankster overlords indeed have immense power in being able to save Greece from defaulting for so long. Heil our new Bankster Overlords! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 34951574 Canada 02/22/2013 01:08 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm safe my friend, not in Athens currently, thanks for asking though. This happens pretty much every year, but not on such a big scale maybe. This is the strongest rainfall since 1961. [link to translate.google.gr] "The rain was so strong that by Friday morning, in many areas of Attica in rainfall reached 75 mm. " Whaaaaat?? 75 millimetres? And that was the strongest since 1961? You really don't know what RAIN means!!! I live in a sunny part of Brazil, but when it rains, IT RAINS!! OK, Brazil, we get it. It rains hard in Brazil. It's not supposed to rain like that in Greece. Do you understand that climate is not constant across the globe? If it was, we'd all get sever weather, all the time. There is a 'delicate' balance of weather systems that gives us what we are used to. What this could mean is by next year you might be snow, instead. Or maybe a drought worse than ever. Rain is not the problem, it's where and how much. |
