Anonymous Coward User ID: 35001787 United Kingdom 02/23/2013 02:49 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I've already done mine. Held a door for a lady coming out the gas station and gave her a smile as I did it. Probably made her day!! Feels good to help others just as much. So what are you going to do today? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7736082 holding a door open is a default setting. you don't claim brownie points for it. you just do it |

BRIEF User ID: 34877027 United States 02/23/2013 02:53 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | i am not good at random acts of kindness to strangers, it seems..being friendly, holding doors open and stuff are "usual" habits for me, so this does not count. Quoting: phoenixe as i don´t eat out and have a really limited budget myself atm, i can´t pay for the person in line behind me. but i just scheduled another act of kindness for a friend of my family next week. hope this counts as well ;) I eat out all the time and it doesn't cost anything, maybe you are doing it wrong... oh Brief.. i think it is once again the "other" eat out you are talking about .. i really do hope i am wrong and you are willing to teach me (... ;) ) how to eat out at restaurants without cost? ;) Well, as long as I at least get a blow job you can eat free ;) I never forgive and I never forget I am a licensed firearm holder. I will, under protection of law, use lethal force if attacked. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 18370350 Canada 02/23/2013 02:57 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I wanted to add related thought to this thread, if I may...if you are reading this, it is because you are ATTRACTED to this idea, the idea of doing good...because that is who you are. Like attracts like. And with this in mind, think about this web site we are on here...how many people that are of a similar orientation do you think come here everyday? (people that like to do good things, that like to help others, that like to make others feel good, that feel good reading about such things...) Thousands and thousands and thousands (well, I would say ALL of them, they just don't know it yet :)). And so building on that thought...how can we use this site as a tool, or a vehicle, to further that energy...to bring more of that positive energy to you? One way, amongst many, would be be post positive/uplifting/inspiring stories/advice/jokes/information here...as much as it makes you feel good. I will be doing this as much as I can from now on. I will only empower...in thought, in words, and in deeds...the things that I want to see in my world. I hope you do the same, as much as you can. Thank you. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 33461226 United States 02/23/2013 03:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | regarding opening doors for others: If I am already at the door and obviously capable of opening it, please don't bother. However, if I am on crutches, in a wheelchair, holding a bulky item, hands otherwise full, or am elderly, then it would be appreciated. Funny thing is, I have been on crutches or carrying a heavy load and don't get help. But if dressed well and perfectly capable of opening the door the "gentlemen" seem to come out of the woodwork. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7736082 I thought that was called common courtesy or manners, but I guess in todays society being human deserves a pat on the back as if you've just donated to the poor. How many common courtesies have fallen by the wayside in today's state of affairs? Or how many individuals have become so weighed down and burdened by their own perceived ailments and woes that they lose focus of being kind and respectful to others? This thread is nothing more than a positive reminder to extend yourself to others... Why? Because it feels good for all parties involved.... Win-win situation all around. Try to see past the perspective of 'egotism' because there are individuals who truly do get enjoyment out of trying to lift another person's spirits in their own little way. |

BRIEF User ID: 34877027 United States 02/23/2013 03:44 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Last time I did a random act of kindness to a stranger Quoting: Anonymous Coward 34984454 they took the $5 I gave them and walked to a liquor store. I would never give a homeless person money... Yup, that's why you have to be very careful how you help so that your money isn't misused...giving is a burden but worthwhile gesture, and the sin I fear is blessing someone that is not worthy of such blessing. Captain Spaulding User ID: 34827019 United States 02/23/2013 04:35 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I always try to. It's cool. And you make some really surprising friends sometimes. We sold, and I had to leave the family property we owned since 1939 in Wisconsin. I had lost my home and business a couple of years before. I was the last one in the old house and I took off with it and a lot of great memories in the rear view mirror, also leaving a good woman behind, on Thanksgiving day, with my stuff and my dog, cold, sad and lonely as hell. I pulled up to a toll booth and the guy said "the car in front of you paid your toll and to have a Happy Thanksgiving". It meant more than that guy in front of me knew. SO I paid for the person behind me. Always pay it forward. Even if it doesn't comeback right away. |
objective viewer User ID: 5359980 United States 02/23/2013 05:08 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I did and it felt good. It was weird and eye opening examining my feelings during the process.I had a little money that i could have blown on myself getting some kind of comfort item or just entertaining myself for the night.I knew a friend at work needed $60 for his daughter to get her car fixed and I gave it to him instead of blowing it on something stupid, but It wasn`t as easy as it should have been and I`m a little disappointed in the greedy feelings that i felt when weighing the options.Once I gave him the money though I knew I made the right decision and feel pretty good about it.The satisfaction I got from helping this guy out outweighed any personal gain i would have got by keeping the money.Next time there won`t be any second guessing on my part, my soul felt as though it was nourished through this act and I liked how it felt. objective viewer |
