Watched a documentary about fish once. It said talapia feed on the waste of other fish. Kind of makes me sick when I see it in grocery stores and restraunts. Don't think it would be so popular if people knew.

Chicken and tilapia are very similar in the fact that they never see the light of day until they are harvested....

Tilapia is good with a little shrimp sauce.

If it's a fish, whatever it tastes like is the taste of that particular fish. Different fish can taste completely different, but they all are fish and therefore taste like fish.

telapia are really easy to farm raise and have a very 'generic' taste. that's why they have become so popular.

i refuse to eat it and normally dont eat seafood from a resturant unless i am on the coast.

I just had snapper for first time last week and have to say it tastes nothing like tilapia!!

I would NEVER eat that sewage eating fish....ever.

Also, again, all fish pretty much taste differently. White fish don't. People who like the health benefits of eating fish but don't actually like the "fishy taste" tend to like eating lighter, fluffier white fish, as opposed to fish like tuna and salmon.

Now, several people have answered your first question (what kind of rotten fish is this?) and also answered your second question (why eat something that doesn't taste like fish in the first place?) are you happy?

Like you I used to underate Tilapia until I tasted the veriety that was farmed by a Norwegian co here in Malaysia . The taste is so good to me even though I always eat expensive fish like Salmon or cod . But to be honest there is a cheaper veriety that is sold in the hypermarket that taste horrible . I think this veriety is raised in ponds with dirty water .

I learn that this Norwegian co export 75% of the fish to USA in form of fillets .You can check this out.

Tilapia have a similar consistency (a fine flaky meat), but the similarities end there...
