My grandfather of the same name swore that he discovered a pattern within the lottery system. Would tell anyone who would listen about it. He hit it a couple of time too but nothing too substantial.

There are people who always win somehow and others don´t.

That pattern got me interested, just out of curiosity

I was too young to remember exactly what he was saying because he never addressed me directly about it. All I remember is him saying certain numbers would come up so on the next play you would do a 'skipping' sequence around certain repetitive numbers.

Re: You Play The Lottery? These are great odds.....
I'm not mathematically smart enough to identify any patterns. But when I start daydreaming about winning the lottery, I think of what it would be like seeing the winning numbers be 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. It would be so unlikely and so crazy. And then I remind myself that the odds of me having the matching numbers on my ticket, no matter how random the numbers seem, have the same odds of coming up as 1,2,3,4,5,6. I do admit I play maybe 2 or 3 times a year though (I pay my poor tax as we call it), just for a little daydreaming.

I read that here in the UK, if that sequence 1,2,3,4,5,6 ever came up, winners would only get a few thousand each as so many people have them every week.

Maybe they can't count beyond 6?

I don't think so. It will then be 2 out of 75,000,000, which is not the same as 1 out of 37,500,000. I mean I'm no math expert so I could be wrong.

No it won't

It'll be exactly the same.

You could buy a million tickets and the odds on each would still be 75000000 to one.

Granted, you'll get a lot more little wins but the only way to increase your odds is to cover the same numbers in a permatation.

No. Unless you 2 tickets with the same numbers the odds of winning would now be 2 out of 75,000,000. If you bought 75,000,000 tickets, then the odds would be 75,000,000 out of 75,000,000 which equal 100%. So if the odds of winning changes from having 1 ticket and having 75,000,000 tickets, then you can't say that any number in between would give you the same chances as only buying 1 ticket.

I'm trying hard to see it your way, but can't.

If the lottery only had two number, 1 and 2 and you only had to pick one number when you play, then if you bought one ticket then you have 1 out of 2 chances of winning right? Which equals 50% And if you bought 2 tickets with the other number, then you would have 2 out of 2 chances of winning, which equals 100%.

So the same logic applies if instead 2 different possible outcome you have 75,000,000.

We're not talking about the odds of each ticket because it doesn't change for each individual ticket, we're talking about the odds of a person having a winning ticket.

Can somebody else verify this?

If the odds are 75-80 million to one. Take a penny lay it down. Stack more on top. When your stack is about a mile high, pick one. That's your odds of winning.

I used to work in checks cashing place. It does slow down the line. The easiest was when a person filled out their card and handed it to us. That was rare, but even when a customer filled one out, the printing did slow things down. But the worst was when they played numbers, it was usually a lot and we had to punch them in manually. The lottery was the biggest line slow down, and it made things more stressful.

Thats so funny and mentally ill. The odds are still cut in half if numbers are different and the odds are still very bad.

It is not about the odds it is about the leverage. For an investment of 1 -5$ you could reap a return literally in the millions of percent overnight. However the odds are astronomical.

There is a pattern. Randomness. The numbers are always random. So they are never nonrandom etc. Simple.

Something that's always random is predictable due to its constant randomness.

But since the computer has taken over it's like the voting machines, who knows what's going on in there.

It's like online poker, same thing. The computer knows the score in real time. Knows what cards everyone has, the lotto computer knows what numbers were picked, it knows what combination pays what in real time. You don't even see balls drop on tv any more. The computer controls all and like poker it's calculating as well as printing out tickets.

but you CAN really say that a few things most probably will never happen, or hardly ever

for instance, all even or all odd numbers. very rare. yes, they do happen, but when considering what numbers to put on, how many lines does ruling them out take out? It must be millions. also, 4, 5 and 6 consecutive. hardly ever to NEVER. even if 4 do come out, it isn't worth factoring in to the equation at all. also, 4, 5 and 6 end numbers all the same, ie 09,19,29,39,49, again, you can realistically rule them out imho

what is left? in my opinion under half of the combinations. Still next to impossible to figure out, of course, but the total odds are not the true odds. you can cut them by a third to a half.

the problem I have with the lottery is I am convinced it is fixed. For instance, my small town here, has over 35000 residents, who probably, between them, do about 10000-20000 tickets a week

the lottery has been running now for just over 18 years. a total of 1791 draws have been made.

when you divide the odds of 14 million (and that is taking into account the highly unlikely combinations above) by 1791, you get 7816, which means, basically, if you put 7816 tickets on every week, sometime in that 18+ year period, you should hit the jackpot. my town have put two to three times that amount on, every week, and NO-ONE has won the jackpot here, and no-one in the other towns that surround us. something about that doesn't sit right with me.

it MUST be fixed.

btw..

Something that's always random is predictable due to its constant randomness.

ohyeah

nice call.
