BREAKING: Thousands May Have Been Exposed to Deadly TB Epidemic in Downtown Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The feds are descending on downtown Los Angeles to combat what they say might be a dangerous outbreak of a drug-resistant strain of tuberculosis.

Jeff Nguyen, reporting for CBS2 and KCAL9, went downtown in search of people who may have been exposed.

John Williams started living at the Weingart shelter on LA’s Skid Row two weeks ago. Before he could be admitted he had to undergo a screening for tuberculosis.

Scary. Let's hope they can do something to contain it, but chances are it's too late.

Thanks hf

I didn't realize you could contract TB from someone's laughter. The video within the article is pretty interesting.

It spreads like the flu - coughing, sneezing, sharing cups/utensils, and even if someone *laughs* near you. Apparently this particular strain is drug-resistant.

In the Western world, tuberculosis is a disease most commonly associated with the past, but Mycobacterium tuberculosis has not gone away. It can survive in the environment for weeks before infecting the respiratory system and causing lethal infection. While there is a vaccine, it is not completely effective and is not commonly used in the US as it can interfere with screening tests. The bacterium’s resistance to antibiotics is growing, with some strains resistant to the two most effective first-line treatments, isoniazid and rifampicin. Four percent of those who develop tuberculosis will die from the disease, and every second someone across the world develops an infection – even though not all will develop a symptomatic disease.

Re: BREAKING: Thousands May Have Been Exposed to Deadly TB Epidemic in Downtown Los Angeles
At one time, TB was a widespread disease. It was virtually wiped out with the help of antibiotics developed in the 1950s, but the disease has resurfaced in potent new forms -- multidrug-resistant TB and extensively drug-resistant TB. Today, these new and dangerous forms of the disease -- resistant to some of the commonly used drug treatments -- have created a public health crisis in many large cities worldwide. If you have TB -- in its active or latent state -- you must seek medical treatment.

come on GLP'ers, do your own research!

This is a good lead, know your diseases!

When I saw the WHO(world health organization)
doing research on and funding the fight against TB, I said "hmmmm", so I started my own looking...

They did it with Malaria and with HIV as well...

The World Bank got involved with these as well...

the Wallace fund as wellllllll.......

A virus,
A bacteria,
and
A parasite....

look these up, they are coming to a neighborhood near you...

DDT is being used by the WHO to combat misquitos in africa that carry Malaria...really????

Google is your friend, take these key words and phrases and look up the old articles...between 2002 and 2007 ,

you will find them, yes you will....

they are insuring that you will need thier med.s....

Laws have been inacted against 'faulty' alternative medicines...they will be illegal, in fact many already are.

Re: BREAKING: Thousands May Have Been Exposed to Deadly TB Epidemic in Downtown Los Angeles
I put my green pin on it.

14 February 2013 - Geneva - The participants in a workshop convened last week by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Stop TB Partnership have proposed a set of goals and targets to guide the global fight against TB after 2015.

Thirty-one experts who included representatives from TB high burden countries, development and technical agencies and research and development entities; advocates from civil society; epidemiologists; and experts on modeling participated in the meeting.

The group shared, above all, the aspirational goal of zero TB deaths, zero TB disease and zero suffering. There was broad agreement on a set of interim targets for 2025 designed to accelerate progress towards this goal. The first is to reduce TB deaths by 75% by 2025 compared with 2015, which would mean a decrease from a projected 1.2 million TB deaths in 2015 to 300 000 in 2025. The second, closely related, interim target is to reduce the TB incidence rate (the number of people who develop TB each year, per 100 000 population) by 40% by 2025 compared with 2015.

The meeting participants also discussed a third 2025 target linked to universal health coverage, which may feature prominently in the broader post-2015 development agenda. There was consensus on a target of zero catastrophic expenditures for families affected by TB by 2025.

Achieving the proposed interim targets will require a dramatic scale up of TB diagnosis and treatment, especially in vulnerable and poor populations; further advances on universal health coverage and economic development and poverty reduction; substantial investment in research and development to accelerate the availability of new TB tools; and widespread uptake of these new tools as they become available.

Besides this I find it odd they jsut recently listed TB ad being in high potential for a break out and then one happens a few days later.

Treatment

The goal of treatment is to cure the infection with drugs that fight the TB bacteria. Treatment of active pulmonary TB will always involve a combination of many drugs (usually four drugs). All of the drugs are continued until lab tests show which medicines work best.

Commonly used drugs include:

Isoniazid
Rifampin
Pyrazinamide
Ethambutol

Other drugs that may be used to treat TB include:

Amikacin
Ethionamide
Moxifloxacin
Para-aminosalicylic acid
Streptomycin

You may need to take many different pills at different times of the day for 6 months or longer. It is very important that you take the pills the way your health care provider instructed.

When people do not take their TB medications as instructed, the infection can become much more difficult to treat. The TB bacteria can become resistant to treatment. This means the drugs no longer work.

When there is a concern that a patient may not take all the medication as directed, a health care provider may need to watch the person take the prescribed drugs. This approach is called directly observed therapy. In this case, drugs may be given 2 or 3 times per week, as prescribed by a doctor.

You may need to stay at home or be admitted to a hospital for 2 - 4 weeks to avoid spreading the disease to others until you are no longer contagious.

Your doctor or nurse is required by law to report your TB illness to the local health department. Your health care team will be sure that you receive the best care.

I thought that was weird, too. This is happening on Skid Row. If it's not a natural outbreak, then it's like they're trying to weed out the "undesirables" or something.

I jsut mentioned this to my co-worker who at first was concerned the second I said homeless shelter they were like...Oh? Well whatever then least it will do some good!

I think that sentiment will be echoed by most so the MSM has thier talking points and no one will really follow up after it's "contained"

This is very incorrect.

you DO NOT have to be sick to become infected with TB, you just need to breath in air droplets from a cough or sneeze of an infected person.

The WHO have also recently confirmed that we're being poisoned by the chemicals used in plastics. I did a thread on this - thought it'd be taken more seriously TBH.

Thread: WHO report says gender bending chemicals found in every home are poisoning us.
