Owwwww, muscle cramps
Okay GLP, I know you're full of natural health nuts.

What food that the average person would already have around the house (no odd herbs or apple cider vinegar here) is good for muscle cramps?

I've just spent the last 20 minutes with my lungs, back, feet, etc cramping all at once for some reason. It hurts :/

I grabbed a banana because I vaguely remember something about potassium and cramps.

I'll also accept paranoid guesses at what the hell just poisoned me neener

Think it's possible to OD on magnesium and have the same effect?

I checked
[link to www.healthaliciousness.com]
for the "top ten foods with magnesium" and the foods listed are pretty much half my diet already.

:/

Re: Owwwww, muscle cramps
Potassium, magnesium, calcium, chromium.

You may be deficient in any or all.

Potassium: bananas, pumpkin and other squash seeds, sunflower seeds, nuts.

Magnesium: epsom salts (believe it or not, 1/4 teaspoon is a daily dose).

calcium: dairy, root veggies, chicken or beef soup if the stock is made from boiling the whole chicken or beef bones.

chromium: ??? I get mine from a supplement.

Don't think you can OD, but you can over-balance. Eat more of the other bone/muscle nutrients to bring yourself back into balance.

If you don't have to work or drive, try an indica heavy cannabis, it relaxes every muscle in the body. Take it before going to bed, you will likely have a good nap and feel refreshed in the morning.

Re: Owwwww, muscle cramps
id say magnesium too.
RDA for vitamins/minerals etc is way lower that what bodies actually need-and with most theres no way you can get the right amount from food without eating a truckload.
Plus take into account foods today are completely fucked with and may not contain much good stuff at all.

Look for a magnesium citrate.Youll know when youve had too much(called toxicity)on it cos youll get the runs lol-

Take magnesium (wheat/rice/oats/pumpkin seeds/cocoa powder/ flax/sesame seeds/brazil nuts/almonds/cashews/sunflower seeds/molasses), potassium (bananas/potatoes/white beans/leafy greens/acorn squash/avocados/mushrooms), and get out in the sun in case your vitamin D is low.

9teen Well I don't know if it's natural or not, but I know what works. I've been putting up with it for about 10 years now and before me as I type is a tube of glucosamine gel, with another one in the bedroom.

Wish I could say it works 100%, but I dread to think what life would be like without it.

Thanks for the ideas :)
The cramps are calming down finally at least.
I guess it's time to reevaluate my apparently badly balanced diet.

It's a long list. I like variety. I avoid chemicals. I attempt to keep it balanced as in including the major food groups and going heavy on the vegetable side. I also try to go for the foods that are naturally higher in vitamins.

I seriously overdid the coffee today, which I'm assuming just depleted every nutrient possible.

Re: Owwwww, muscle cramps
What is the cause of muscle cramps?

Lack of something and you are getting multiple cramps at the same time that would be indicative of a severe lack of whatever is missing. I would try a salt water mixture, or gatorade if you have it

Oh yeah, vitamin D. It's far too easy to get deficient in D in the winter time. And forget the sun-screen; sun-screen causes D deficiencies.

I usually limit it to 2 cups a day. But today I decided to make a fancy latte and I used the espresso machine and I may have accidentally poured too much coffee grounds into the machine and well...
I think it was like a 6 shot coffee.

I've had a banana, a glass of milk, and a cup of water since this thread started.
I decided that I'm probably still okay for magnesium considering that I had a tahini covered lunch.
