...Elk herd found dead in northeastern N.M.'More than 100 elk found were dead on a ranch about 20 miles north of Las Vegas this week.
Sky News 13 flew over the gruesome discovery on the sprawling 75,000-acre Buena Vista Ranch near Mora.
The elk weren't shot, so the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish is investigating just what caused the deaths.

The deer are dying of internal bleeding, and tests at the Wyoming State Veterinary Lab in Laramie will determine if epizootic hemorrhagic disease or bluetongue is responsible. ....2012 was a very bad year for EHD. Last year in Michigan there was an official count of 15,000 dead with estimates as high as 70.000. It is though it will take 3-5 years for the deer to rebound. Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Nebraska were hit hard too.
It is believed the EHD kills far more deer than Chronic Wasting Disease, although the viral agent is not so frightening as the all but indestructible prion....' Reports of the virus started coming in last week Friday on August 23rd.
As of this Friday afternoon, Dr. Tahnee Szymanski with the Montana Department of Livestock said 11 cases have been reported in ten Montana counties. Those counties are Cascade, Blaine, Phillips, McCone, Big Horn, Stillwater, Petroleum, Musselshell, Pondera and Custer....' [ link to www.kbzk.com]
