It appears that humanity is about to get it's shit pushed in big time, in any way possible and every way imaginable.
As Tex Antoine once said, "if you're going to get raped, you may as well lay back and enjoy it.'

New burp event and trees toppling videos, Louisiana sinkhole

'There has been another burp event at Louisiana sinkhole on August 21, 2013. According to Assumpton Parish Police Jury all operations have been pulled from inside of the sinkhole until activity calms down. The monitoring/alert status has been heightened to Code 3.'

Springfield intersection closes after sinkhole opens

'SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A sudden sinkhole swallowed part of a Springfield road. City Utilities crews discovered the sinkhole Monday and they say it's the biggest they've seen in Springfield.

The crews found the sinkhole as they were installing water mains near Walnut Lawn and Cox to boost water pressure to customers. During a test of the main, the massive sinkhole opened up, closing part of Walnut Lawn.

At one point, crews estimate the sinkhole is 50 feet wide and at least 25 feet deep...'

Sinkhole grows in Nixa subdivision

'NIXA, Mo. - From the street it almost looks like a construction zone. But, look closer and you will see what has residents like Jim Hoover so upset.

"There are a lot of kids in this neighborhood and it is dangerous," said resident Jim Hoover.

Hoover has lived on Gregory Drive for nine years, just about the same amount of time as the sinkhole. You can see it from U.S. 160. It is right in front of the north-Nixa Bentwater subdivision. City officials and residents say the sinkhole did not appear overnight. It has been years in the making.

"It was about eight foot deep and maybe 15 feet wide. Now it is 50 feet deep probably 50 feet wide. It is ridiculous," said Hoover...'

A timeline of the most important events at the Bayou Corne sinkhole - Louisiana sinkhole

'The Bayou Corne sinkhole, also known as Louisiana sinkhole, was discovered in August 2012 when a Napoleonville salt dome, a naturally-occurring underground salt deposit, suddenly collapsed after months of unexplained seismic activity and mysterious bubbling at the bayou. The sinkhole grew from 1 to 25 acres in just 12 months and the scariest part of it is that the collapse unlocked tens of millions of cubic feet of explosive gases, which have seeped into the aquifer and wafted up to the community (40 million cubic feet = 1.13 million cubic meters).

Texas Brine, the operator of the salt dome, specializes in a process known as injection mining and had been drilling around the dome in order to extract brine, which is used for refining oil. When they mined the salt dome too close to the edge of the dome, say officials, the side wall collapsed and 350 nearby residents were immediately advised to evacuate.

50 kg meteor explodes and illuminates sky over southeastern USA

'A meteor with estimated mass of over 50 kg exploded over Tennessee, USA, around 07:27 UTC on August 28, 2013 (02:27 local time). Head of NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office, Bill Cook, said the fireball reached a peak magnitude of -13. It was brighter than a full moon, and casted shadows on the ground. This indicated that the meteor had a mass of over 50 kg (110 lbs) and was about 40 cm (16 inches) in diameter.
All 6 NASA's all sky cameras in the southeast picked up a very bright fireball that may have produced meteorites. The cameras were completely saturated, necessitating a manual solution.
It hit the top of Earth's atmosphere traveling 23.7 km/s (53,000 mph)....'

Montana deer deaths could be linked to EHD

'Dead white-tailed deer are being found across north central Montana, with officials saying the deaths could be linked to a Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHD).

Wildlife officials said EHD is spread among deer, primarily whitetails, by biting small flies...'

'....Fisheries biologist Grant Grisak explained, "The streams that we do have angling restrictions on right now...the flows are low but they are still between the 25th and 40th percentiles so in this case we're really looking at the high water temperatures as the trigger mechanism to institute those closures."

On the Blackfoot River, officials say that there will be a 24-hour a day fishing closure on the main stem Blackfoot and important bull trout tributaries once river flows dip below 500 cfs at the Bonner USGS river flow gauge.

While I was finding the above information I also stumbled across some interesting volcano activity. Most interesting is the Newberry Volcano. It is the largest volcano in the Cascades, covering an area the size of Rhode Island. Its last eruption was 1300 years ago and the last major eruption 75,000 years ago. Now fast forward to today; over the last 40 years Newberry volcano has averaged 0 earthquakes. In the month of November there have been 24 earthquakes! Mount Hood and Rainer have both show increased activity in the same mountain chain. Iceland, Alaska and Russia all show increased activity as well. Most recent change further north was the Cleveland Volcano. On November 10, 2012 there was an ash cloud and they changed the alert level from ADVISORY to WATCH with the following warning, “Sudden explosions of blocks and ash remain possible with little or no warning. The previous confirmed explosion occurred on November 10. Ash clouds, if produced, could exceed 20,000 feet above sea level.”

I live about 15 miles away from the Newberry Caldera. It began having small earthquakes after they began a project FRAKING it for a geo-thermal power plant experiment. My land sits atop 35 feet of volcanic ash from the last big-time eruption. If I had known that, I would probably not have moved here. We are also surrounded by 40 volcanic cones. If one goes, they'll probably all go. Happily, one can only die once (at least in this incarnation).

Pertussis reports pour in from around MT

Areas across Montana are still reporting cases of the whooping cough.

During a health board meeting earlier this month, it was revealed that 225 cases of pertussis were reported between June of 2012 and May of this year. That's an average of nearly 19 cases a month. In June, 25 more cases were reported.

Data for the month of August was not made available in that report, but the Flathead City-County Health Department tells us they are still confirming cases of pertussis in the Flathead.

The Butte - Silver Bow Health Department is also dealing with an outbreak of whooping cough....'

High demand for water, dry weather kill hundreds of fish as Lolo Creek runs dry

'A combination of extremely dry weather, plus a big demand for water because of the Lolo Creek Complex Fire is killing hundreds of fish, as lower Lolo Creek runs dry.

The creek often runs ‘low to nearly dry' in September, and even last year it took a last ditch volunteer effort to save the fish in the stream below Highway 93.

But this week the combination of the continued dry spell, coupled with the need for water for fire protection has created the unintended consequence of completely draining the creek....'

We talked with a local vet about the potential dangers of blue-green algae for man's best friend.

Although the blue-green algae is not found in all bodies of water, it is present in Montana. Hot weather the algae is able to bloom in lakes and reservoirs after months of calm and hot weather.

Then if the algae is disrupted by a storm or winds, it mixes throughout the water, making dogs and fish susceptible to ingesting it....'

'Clayton Phipps often spends his weekends rambling around the badlands of eastern Montana on foot and horseback....on a bright summer day in 2006, near Jordan, Mont., one of his companions spotted a huge, chalky-brown pelvis weathering out of a sandstone canyon. Individual dinosaur bones are not uncommon, so Phipps finished his lunch before wandering over for a closer look. It was only when he saw a massive femur sticking out of the ground next to the pelvis that he began to suspect they’d stumbled onto something exceptional—perhaps an entire dinosaur.

As it turns out, that wasn’t even half the story....

Eventually, Phipps, a rancher known as the “Dinosaur Cowboy,” and his partners would uncover not just a single complete dinosaur, but two of them—carnivore and herbivore. Even more unusual, the two skeletons had been buried together, entwined in what looked like a death match. A find with great potential for paleontological study and education, the “Dueling Dinosaurs” became one of the highest-priced fossils ever offered for sale: $9.8 million.

Then the trouble began. Museums refused to host the fossils. Scientists didn’t publish papers about them. The dinosaurs haven’t even been named, although it’s traditional for fossil discoverers to do so. Seven years after their discovery, the dinosaurs are still stuck in stone blocks, clutching each other in a cold storage shed, waiting to tell a story that reaches back 66 million years to the Cretaceous Period. But though the bones are silent, another drama is unfolding—a story of ranchers struggling during economic recession, of warring principles and scientific feuds....'

Images taken at the scene this week showed thousands of silvery fish carcasses blanketing large expanses of the river and its shore.

Scientists discover huge reservoir of magma under Pacific and Cocos plates

"March 28, 2013 – CENTRAL AMERICA – Since the plate tectonics revolution of the 1960s, scientists have known that new seafloor is created throughout the major ocean basins at linear chains of volcanoes known as mid-ocean ridges. But where exactly does the erupted magma come from? Researchers at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego now have a better idea after capturing a unique image of a site deep in the Earth where magma is generated. Using electromagnetic technology developed and advanced at Scripps, the researchers mapped a large area beneath the seafloor off Central America at the northern East Pacific Rise, a seafloor volcano located on a section of the global mid-ocean ridges that together form the largest and most active chain of volcanoes in the solar system..."

Experts scramble to save orange groves

'....The pestilence that is devastating Florida citrus is a disease called citrus greening. It is caused by a bacterium, Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus, which is spread by small insects called psyllids. The bacteria infect the tree’s phloem, thereby blocking the flow of nutrients, causing yellow mottling on the leaves and asymmetrical, bitter fruit that never ripens.

Infected trees die within about five years, during which time they serve as a reservoir for psyllids to spread the disease further. There is no known cure, but it can be slowed by frequent spraying with large amounts of chemical pesticides....'

Nearly 75 percent of this year’s infections have been reported in Campbell County.

“We don’t fully understand all of the reasons for that,” said Kelly Weidenbach, an epidemiologist who monitors outbreaks of waterborne illnesses for the state.
