I think the point being is that NASA built the telescope to look at the Sun, which is a very large object. I don't believe that the telescopes that were built to view the Sun have the capability to pick out a few meters wide asteroid..whizzing by our planet at 13-30 miles per second accurately. Those scopes just were not designed for that..they do have some they are working on now to help locate the smaller asteroids, but they are not up there yet. Valid point. But, think of it this way: NASA put a man on the moon. They have sent probes into deep space. They have explored the surface of Mars. They can watch the intricacies of the the surface of the sun. They have created some of the highest resolution cameras on the planet capable of looking at the other end of the Universe. They can see and track a 40,000 ton space rock called DA14. But....they can't see, track, or protect earth from a 10,000 ton disaster? Nope, not buying it. Something doesn't add up. Here we go again.
