Ultimately I think mandatory insurance is just bigger government and a way for government to begin standardized care. Up till now medicine has left a lot of room for professional judgement for doctors, that is what gave them "value" in terms of what they made for a living. But when the government codifies or standardizes medical care, that value for professional judgement will be undermined.

Also, they wanted a codified or standardized way of collecting more medical data about you, your history. More of a way to limit your care in the future based on the codes, than actually providing you any care.

It was also a backdoor bailout for insider cronies that owned insurance companies.
