OP: Sarcasm is a dying art. NOBODY gets it anymore, not just Germans. Everybody takes things so seriously today.

we do have them, but not as much as you have.
it is really difficult to find them in german language.

we have ambiguity, of course, but it is different.. it does not come from the similar sound while pronounciating a word, but from the exact same word with a different meaning in a different context. difficult to explain, i am lacking of examples.. i have a not so good one:
in context of "easter" in german the sentence "ich gehe meine eier suchen" would mean
"i go looking for my (easter)eggs" as well as " go looking for my balls".
(but most of us don´t assume the second meaning when someone says this sentence).
so it is the same word "eier" with different meanings, one the "real" meaning, one the "casual" one.

but in english, i noticed there is many ambiguities by different words but with a similar pronounciation. which makes it sometimes difficult to understand a joke.

people losing their humor.

especially in a "serious" nation as germany.

i know many really sarcastic people, but sarcasm is "negativity".

and many as well don´t understand it here, but from my experience, it´s the dumb ones who don´t understand it, as "brain" and the ability to think "around the edge" (as we say here) is needed to understand sarcasm.

Does something get lost in the translation? I don't know how I would do, if I was learning a foreign language and trying to understand jokes. Is she fluent in English?

She takes courses in English and can follow the instructor She understands formal written English well. She is more flient than most mexicans around here! But she is not good with idioms, banter and slang. when she speaks fast, to keep up, She will confuse her syntax, leave out crucial words and end her sentences awkwardly. Im helping her!

Its difficult to type on this cell. Im typing quickly and it randomly capitalizes words and ill hit the wrong button occasionally. Of course its fluent the post before me had The word in it lol. Much easier to have this conversation on my laptop. Thanks for the help and support though, from some of the people here.
