Re: POLL....GLP military vets, do you regret your time you were in?
I don't regret my time at all. I wish I wouldn't have stayed in as long as I did. I stayed in due to a sense of loyalty that was never returned. I thought if I'd stayed in long enough I could make up for all the things I saw wrong, but the longer I stayed in the worse I saw the entire organization. Too much is placed on bureaucracy and politics and not enough on merit and honor.

I don't because it was "peace time" with no overseas deployment.

and now I know how to aim and fire a howitzer, if the situation should arise.

Repeal the 17th Amendment and the Reapportionment Act of 1929!

Thread: First steps down the road to a return to the Constitutional Republic that we were intended to be.

Restore the Republic.

Thread: The Bill of Rights does NOT include age requirements!

I definitely did mature, but I can't say for sure it was the military. I mean, I joined when I was a 17 year old kid who thought I knew everything. I got out when I was 28 and I'd say it's natural to be more mature. So, I'm not disagreeing but unsure.

It's nothing to be proud of. I was a war protestor in 2003 because of my involvement in Operation Blood for Oil in 1991.

Research Battle of PL Norfolk, and "Fright Night". I was there.

5* and a pin!

My husband was drafted at the age of 24 during the Vietnam War. He was a college graduate...a really smart guy, and landed a great job as a financial analyst with Ford Motor Company. I had a good job, and I pictured us staying in one location with a home and the picket fence. lol

We were only married four months when the draft notice arrived in the mail. We thought our lives were over! OMG...how could this be happening?

He planned to serve the few required years in the military then get out. Ford was holding his job for him.

He figured if he was going to serve in the military, he'd do it as a officer....went to Officers' Candidate School.

After the end of two years in the army, he decided to stay in. He noticed, before he left his civilian job, men in their 40's and 50's were having heart attacks because of the stress of the job.

He really enjoyed the military...we were stationed in Germany for 3 1/2 years and traveled all over Europe. He served 25 years then got a job with the Department of Defense...just retired after 10 years there. No regrets...a good life...a good pension. I love shopping at the commissary....it's quite a savings, and the medical benefits are a big plus.

Well, I learned how to run a nuclear reactor, so I guess that was a productive use of my time.

And at the time, I wasn't aware that the military was actually helping our so-called "leaders" wage war on the American constitution, like I am now.

So if I overlook that small detail, I suppose I could say I don't regret my time in the machine.

No, as a matter of fact, it was the best time of my life. I served 1989-1993. Veteran and damn proud of it. Wouldn't change a thing.

Regarding Fleet Week, NYC, 2012
That evening the USO hosted a party in Brooklyn at a Navy pier. Lots of vendors...including 800 free pizzas, free beer, soft drinks, games, barbeques....and ....a live Katy Perry concert.

The men LOVED it! She took a few sailors up on the stage and planted a kiss on each of them....sooooo cute. And you could imagine the cheers from the sailors from around the world who were standing there watching it.

Can't wait till May again! I cannot believe the size of our naval ships, by the way!

Spent 34 years 9 months 8 days in. Army and Marines, Officer and enlisted, 11 different real world actions. I don't regret a min of it, although I did have some shi**y people above me at times. Learned a lot about the world.
