From a fan's perspective (NASCAR is trying to have all copies of this one removed):

 Quoting: Present and Aware

Whoever got hit by the tire is likely not going to make it. So sad. Funny thing about NASCAR is no one ever dies at the track. People die in crashes and things but they always "died at the hospital". Back to the tire though, I believe in 1987 (sometime between 87 & 92), a tire killed someone at the Indianapolis 500. Flying into the stands, they are very dangerous.

Danica Patrick's car died on her. She was doing good and leading the race. Danica's car all of the sudden died out and she had to leave the race.

Maybe the angels saved her.

"At least 33 people hurt." - Fox News

This is some Final Destination type stuff. The Final Destination episodes have been running on cable Tv. This whole thing seems like the Finial Destination episode with the NASCAR accident.

This is another reason why people need to study astrology. Or at least one should pay attention to the conjunctions, retrogrades, and alignments. The race should have never been ran today. We are in the middle of a mercury retrograde.

( Mercury Retrograde, Pisces - February 23 - Confusion, illusions, delusions, unclear communication. )

Re: Crash At NASCAR...over 25 fans hurt
Apparently no one dead.

This should be a wake up call.

Ive been saying for years NASCAR is long overdue for numerous fan deaths from car or car parts going into the stands.

Nascar tracks should have been built differntly.

One change would do two things:
- greatly increase fan safety
- greatly increase visibility for fans to the cars and track

That change is - the stands need to be farther from the fence and track surface and the stands need to be more steeply angled.

too late and too expensive now, as it would require totally new stands be built.

When you have stands that are angled so that the angle points directly or almost directly at the track, it decreases the visibility a fan in the stands has due to all the people around you.

Simply pulling the stands back a bit and angling them more steeply greatly improves visibility to the entire grandstand crowd. The fan has an unobstructed view and is then looking 'out' at the race action, instead of down the stands and across the stands at the tack trying to see across a sea of people.

It will also increase safety.

One victim in serious condition, and one life threatening critical condition - from head injuries. Half were treated on site, the rest taken by ambulance or by air.

I wonder is NASCAR will get a lot of expensive new regulations because of this?

Flashback:

[link to www.autoblog.com]

Five NASCAR drivers invited to meet President Barack Obama at the White House aren't going to show, citing "scheduling conflicts." Nobody's sure whether "scheduling conflicts" means "political views," but thanks to stereotypes associated with NASCAR, nobody's ruling that out.

The president invited 12 drivers from the 2010 Chase to celebrate their successes. The drivers bailing include Greg Biffle, Tony Stewart, Kevin Harvick, and Carl Edwards. Jimmie Johnson, Denny Hamlin, Jeff Gordon, Kyle Busch, Kurt Busch (who had initially declined), Clint Bowyer, Jeff Burton and Matt Kenseth all plan to attend.

Re: Crash At NASCAR...over 25 fans hurt
It's a fucking high speed sport that people pay to attend to have FRONT ROW seats. If one thinks sitting 40 feet from 40 plus cars going about 200 mph is safe then their belief system is highly inaccurate. Yet, when DOOM happens now it's all on the sport? Yeah, go to a rodeo....that bull won't kick.....what? Shit happens....and most fans WANT shit to happen. Unfortunately...this time the disaster was both on and off the track.

High risk spectator sport....I've been to plenty and after the very first one I realized the danger of being there.

I do feel for the individuals injured....but to blame the sport is simply wrong. One should know the risk when they buy the ticket. If they don't know the risk it is not because the risk is not public knowledge. Or common sense.

4,000 pound vehicles in groups of 40 going 180 mph is not a safe enviroment. One would think that a fence from Home Depot would not exclude one from harm when the shit hits the fan. (no pun intended).

Do you have any idea how many people die each year playing Golf?

Far more than have died in Nascar in the last decade.

True. The last decade of NASCAR has been extraordinarily safe compared to years before that. I dont think anyone has been killed in NASCAR in the last ten years if Im not mistaken, and it used to average about 1 a year before that.

There are still a few things that could kill drivers, and not too much else to be done about it:

-fire and/or smoke inhalation
-high speed t-bone door impacts
-intrusion into driver's compartment by a penetrating object

Its gonna be hard to do any more to protect fans. The danger of flying objects hiting fans will always be there unless you remove the fans or build large plexiglass walls.

But they are so stable in Grand Theft Auto...

[link to www2.tbo.com]

"News media always describe them as freak accidents, but they are not," said Kristopher Seluga, who works for Technology Associates, a Connecticut-based company that reconstructs accidents. "Somebody dies every week in this country from falling out of a golf cart."

Most often, it involves a left turn. The passenger has no place to hold onto, and the rail on the outside of the vehicle acts as a fulcrum that causes the person to fall up and over, onto his or her head
