Re: Serious question for Christians about hell
The short answer:

* Jesus warned us to beware the scribes for their tendancy to mishandle His word, a pitfall previously mentioned in Jeremiah 8:8, and later confirmed by the fact that our English bibles are inaccurately translated from the original Hebrew & Greek

* spanning the thousands of years before Christ, God gave us 39 books of documentation and never defined or even warned of any burning afterlife

* during this same timespan, the pagan world had numerous myths and horror stories of eternal damnation and fiery doom

* scripture tells us that God detests the idea of burning people

* burning people is contrary to the nature of Someone who would humble Himself to nothing and die for those who hate Him

* scripture uses fire as a symbol to describe difficulties which are *not* fire

* God uses these metaphorical fires to purify people

* Jesus came to save people, not destroy them

* "God is Love" and "Love never fails"

* "For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive."

* "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time."

* "For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe."

Re: Serious question for Christians about hell
Hell, Hades, Sheol, Tartarus, the Abyss, the Bottomless Pit, the Lake of Fire, Gehenna, places of torment, its a common arrogance we have that God should behave as we expect he should with regard to the spirit and eternal judgement.

To expect a loving omnipotent God would never require punishment for those uncovered from sin is a way that seems right to our understanding, but as Jesus recounted the story of Lazarus, we have Moses and the prophets and now with the Gospels we have even more than the rich man had for consideration, we are without excuse,

When Jesus returns it will be with “the day of vengeance of our God” and with the Jubilee, then both the Beast and False Prophet are thrown alive into the lake of fire, where Satan catches up with them one-thousand years later,

“And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?” Matthew 8:28

Believers are in this world but not of it, its our choice only to accept his grace, and its his grace that saves us, God is sovereign, his ways are not our ways, don’t ask for his justice instead of his mercy or we should all perish,

Satan desired to give Jesus a way out from the punitive measures of (our) sin, away from suffering and death to obtain the kingdom of the flesh immediately, but Jesus only quoted scripture until he departed,

I’ve always suspected that eternal torment is why God brooded over the creation, knowing that many were always going to choose evil, but he knew you and me and everyone that was, is and ever will be alive in the world, and we were always supposed to be alive, this is omnipotence,

There are ‘principalities and powers’ and rulers of darkness in high places for which we believers are in spiritual battle against, the war is raging whether the participants are aware or not.

And why understanding prophecy is so important is because the one telling us the end from the beginning is also describing in very physical and direct terms the extreme punitive measures to be meted out not only upon his people (Israel) who having failed the provisions of the Law and Ordinances and being punished in the flesh (in the here and now) and in fact were punished from 70 AD until 1967 with the destruction of Jerusalem and the diaspora, and further for which we have in this past month (December 2012) witnessed for ourselves how the god of this world is attempting to undo that very restoration from the physical punitive measures God enacted in keeping his ordinances with Israel, whereby God will use them to complete the covenant which is tied to the land as much as to the people with whom it was promised, and then equally for the Earth, its inhabitants, and the final Jubilee restoration of all things under the law as recounted in Daniel Chapter 7 and Revelation Chapters 4 and 5.

The “court will sit” as we’re told in Daniel Chapter 7, and when the judgement begins and with Jesus in the role of our kinsman of Adam, who having inserted himself into the holy framework of the Laws and Ordinances which he himself provided, alone is able to redeem this world away from a failed Adam, who erred in giving it to Satan and the world to its certain destruction,

To believers, all of whom being his Church, in the spirit with his Kingdom and granted all power to bind and loose in the spirit on the Earth, and not in the flesh being always Israel, then believers who have the blessed hope of being found in the Lambs Book of Life written (before) the foundation of the world, for which the second death has no power,

“And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.” Revelation 9:6

Revelation 9:6 I believe was written for those who expect and desire for this world to be all there is, a life of no accountability and resentment for the consideration of it, then blissful nothingness, and if there is a God then he must be good and loving and would spare us. But how then is he Holy? And when they “shall see these things begin to come to pass” as we’re told in Mark 13:29 . The destruction and judgement upon all flesh, much less the coming casting away of their immortal spirit out of Gods holy presence, as well as coming precisely as Jesus said, then instead of lifting their heads and looking up, and without deeper knowledge of why these days have come, they’ll be troubled but without understanding to find their way back, they’ve exchanged the truth for a lie, with their own supposed worldly enlightenment, having their consciousness seared with doctrines of demons seduced with their more pleasant versions of the truth and rejecting whats clearly written.

We all must come humbly to a saving knowledge of his truth, it’s always been our arrogance keeping his truth far from our understanding, and in the flesh we all will fail, and when we fail we all want oblivion if not salvation and eternal life. There is nothing we can do ourselves to be measured, we can only take the pardon granted to us freely for the asking by the one who died in our place so we wouldn’t have to face the second death,

“The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:” 2 Peter 2:9

“Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.” Revelation 20:14-15

“then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are: Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets. But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.” Luke 13:23-28
"So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom."

"Return, O LORD, how long? . . ."

Re: Serious question for Christians about hell
OP,

The truth is that this world is the spiritual prison for all of us who sinned against God in the Kingdom of Heaven. Our sin was so great that it deserved the punishment of death. However God loves His children so much that He died 2000 years ago on the cross to pay for their sins. He told us that whoever eats His Flesh and Drinks His Blood would have Eternal Life. This is the PASSOVER. He only gave us this promise one night, on the PASSOVER night! The NEW COVENANT PASSOVER is what saves us from burning in hell. This is our last chance to repent and return to God. Truth is the only reason I know this is because I have returned to God. Please understand that just as the bible says, the whole world will be led astray-and it has! People are fooled into celebrating communion for Christ's Flesh and Blood. But Jesus gave it to us thru the Passover Bread & Wine. Matt 26:17-19, 26-28 and Luke 22:7-9, 14-15, 19-20.

I would love to chat more with you and do bible study with you over the phone if you are serious about finding the truth.

God Bless You

If God has everlasting love, why does he stop giving chances one a person dies? Why not just send them to hell for a week or a month, and then give them another chance to repent?

Re: Serious question for Christians about hell
.

A Dante type "hell" is a pagan idea. It is not Biblical.

In the Bible, hell = grave = death.

The ONLY way to eternal life is via the resurrection of the body.

Re: Serious question for Christians about hell
And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead. (Luke 16:30-31)

And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment (Heb. 9:27)

He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. (Mark 16:16)

Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation. (John 5:28-29)

That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. (2 Thess. 2:12)

God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? (Num. 23:19)

So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. (Rev. 3:16)

Re: Serious question for Christians about hell
you asked a good question its time I divulge a little info. the only people really in hell is satan who is locked in a cage/room and his demons plan there next move for there master. From what God told me about it Hell is a terribly boring place made just for the devil and his goons. when a human dies and they loved god with all there heart then they will be free to go to heaven those who turned away from god will walk this earth until he comes back to destroy all evil. Earthbound spirits can repent at anytime and be saved as long as its before the rapture but a lot still don't see the light after death. Always Remember God helps though who help themselves. Just love god with all your heart and you have nothing to be scared of.

It's a difficult question, God's ways are not our ways... This might be an unacceptable answer to some, but it's true.

Re: Serious question for Christians about hell
There is no hell, neither Satan exist.

We do repay karma yes, and can take more than one lifetime to pay off.

You say, "I will do anything for our God" and then God says "let see if you do anything for me even thought you know not that I exist".

We agreed, sign contract and here we are again!.

How do you know he doesn't?
Everyone who does not accept JESUS, gets a chance.

Revelation 20:11-15

New International Version (NIV)
The Judgment of the Dead

11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done. 14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. 15 Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 35002858

What you are referring to is the great white throne judgement and I understand how you can get the false view that people will get a second chance, but this is not the truth. The individuals in the crowd to be judged are already condemned. Why? Because they failed to believe in the works of his son. Nobody in this judgement will have their name in the book, and the reason the book is going to be opened, is so GOD can use it as evidence to prove to each person, they failed to believe in the works of his son while they were alive. If they would have, their name would be in the book and they would not be a part of this judgement. Understood?
