you must be joking , china have 140 million soldier , and 50 million Reservists not mention the nuke missiles , japan population is 300 million.

If we were in the 9th century then that would matter. How did Saddam's 1 million man army fare against a couple hundred thousand Americans with high tech? Not too well if I remember correctly.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 32558368

LMAO i think you have no clue .
saddam's army contain shias and soni's , shias had been oppressed by saddam for many years and USA knew that shia hates saddam . so when usa army strike the soni's area the shia told their people not to fight with sadam thats how usa won . how did you think USA knew where is sadam hiding in 19 days ? and they were searching for osama bin laden for 10 years
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 15290283

Pfft ironic coming from a Brit Eurofag who spent weeks trying to suppress Shia Basra. Meanwhile the US was sending troops straight into the heart of Bahgdad while you were trying to suppress the Shia.

oy ok first look at their main battle tank the type 99 it is as advanced as the m1 in fact it is nicknamed M1 killer [link to voices.yahoo.com] only the leopard is more advanced now that being said they still build and field the m96 which had some issues with the powerplant however the 600 IIms they have now have that issue fixed don't write them off remember when a chinese sub surfaced during our war games [link to www.dailymail.co.uk] their subs run both nuke and diesel hmm but diesel is outdated you say well if you shut off your nuke power plant and run battery their subs are quieter then ours don't write china off they have been updating their military with gusto since the 90s and we americans pay for it via walmart

Mixed feelings about this.

If Japan's military-industrial complex goes into full-swing with no limitations a declining U.S may come to regret that years down the line.

“Japan’s Self-Defense Forces could easily repel Chinese forces from the Senkakus,” says Takashi Kawakami, a defense expert who advises leaders of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), using the Japanese name for the islands that China calls the Diaoyu.

That is because for half a century successive Japanese governments have interpreted – or ignored – the Constitution in such a way as to build the most sophisticated armed forces in Asia.

I think China would wipe their asses in 1 day. That's what i believe.Japan now is not Japan 1940.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78748

An interesting thing to consider is that Japan actually has better state-of-the-art military tech than the United States. In fact, a lot of the best U.S military hardware (processors for targeting systems, etc) comes from Japan.

Having said that, if Japan cut the crap and tore this BS Pacifist constitution to shreds they could enlarge what is already the most advanced military into a 1-2 million strong killing machine.

In that scenario, think 1940s Japan with superior military tech (including nukes).

And they're saying that Japan can whip China's ass in its current 'defensive/pacifist' form.

Food for thought isn't it.

I doubt anybody will be driving tanks to the disputed islands. This is an air and naval battle. For all the hoopla about China they still lag behind technologically. China has a history of pulling stunts in an effort to get respect, but they are only stunts. The media jumps all over it.

For example the Chinese sub that turned up right in the middle of a carrier group. The media went wild. "How did they get a sub that close to a carrier?" "What does this mean?"

It means that it was a peace time event when the US navy wasn't filling the sea with sona buoys and when the good (whale maddening) sonars weren't being used. The Chinese got in front of the carrier group and sat there silent until they could surface right in the middle of the US ships. A BS stunt that wouldn't work nearly so easily in war time because anti-sub operations would be in full swing.

China has a few good destroyers, but the vast majority of their fleet is sub-standard by any Western standards and Russian standards, too.

Their airforce is a little better off than their navy. They actually have a couple of airframes that are very competitive. Their numbers are small however, and a bad day against Japanese top notch air defenses could easily cut their numbers in half.

china would wipe japan off the face of the earth without US backing japan is not a nuclear armed nation china is. China has nukes and delivery systems capable of reaching japan on target case closed
 Quoting: Desertwolf

Japan has plenty of nukes, that was what Fukushima was all about. They imported plutonium from the us, and was refining it at Fukushima, officially its called Mox fuel, but the intention was all about making nukes with it.

China on the other hand, has all of its nukes underground on rails, movable in tunnels, and cant be taken out.

Japan sits basically on a big volcano, and cant tunnel down.

So good luck Japan. we will miss all the Walkmans and televisions.

After scalar EM wave technology, wich happened in the 60's nuclear devices can be ignited in their silos, remotely, so after all, nukes is outdated, and a treath and menace, to their own forces.

And since Russia is the leader in this technology, and since China and Russia has been working together, its more than a small chance that China has this technology.

In a conventional war, it will boil down to resources. While China may seem to have the upper hand with a large standing army and now lots of manufacturing, its quite energy starved with the rising demands it has. This is why China petrol has been forging agreements in Latin America, Middle East, Africa, trying to meet demand. Without oil & gas, their industry and military establishment won't be able to do much long-term.

Nukes are the great equalizer. No one can win an all-out war these days.

Economics, cyber, manipulation, terrorism. That is how the power struggles are fought these days - over tertiary and seemingly unrelated/minor conflicts.

China, due to its fatal "one child" policy, and murder of female babies, hosts a seething mass of young men, with no prospect of marriage, or even GFs.

So, how to provide an outlet for all that frustrated testosterone?

Even if they have too build 10,000 row boats with mounted AA missiles they will build them.
