I live in germany and hate most people and the system. The only reason I stay is because the health care system is great.

Their sense of humor dissolved after losing 2 world wars.

Their - once excellent society - is screwed up by forced guilt and immigration.

I was in East Germany in the eighties and despite communism I loved the country with their with nice honest people.

The reason you cant notice German humor is becuase your not intelligent enough to pick up on it.

That's the trend in every country, it seems. Here, you have college grads who can't even get into the workforce. They have loans with compound interest to be paid back to boot.

Much of what you describe I can see in the U.S except the patriotism part. That still is pumped up high here - but it's usually not stemming from a good ground...


1) Old folks who remember what the country was many decades ago and support that America. [not guilty] < -- (and even though they too were kept in the dark and lied to about things - they get a pass because of their time. They didn't have access to information the way we do today)

2) The majority who are ignorant of their governments passed and present corruption and wrong doings - they don't seek out information and just believe what they are spoon fed through our corrupt medias. [guilty of being willfully ignorant]

3) Those who know exactly what's going on and supports the corruption and wrong doings and/or are directly involved in the promotion of it or the actions of it and do so for their own ends at the expense of the country. [should be shot]

Anyone who is patriotic in the sense of trying to do the right thing and/or calls out the bullshit is cast down and labeled an anti-American who hates Freedom.

You know that saying, the sun also rises? That's the name of a famous novel by Ernest Hemmingway about the lost generation between WW1 and WW2, disillusioned people with no porpose in life trying to come to reason in a crazy and everchanging world that makes no sense to them and has no place for them. They end up drinking, fucking around, partying hard, trying to enjoy life as good as it gets, but deep inside they know their lives are wasted without options to leave an actual heritage. Germany today feels much like this, so much potential going nowhere, it's not a good country to live in anymore, maybe for children or elderly people but not when you are between say 25 and 45.

As for the actual weather, it sucks. After 20 years with almost no winter to speak of, the last three winters were pretty fucking rough and the other three seasons are combined into one consisting of mostly rain and cloudy skies. You can't even enjoy the winter anymore, as you pay shitloads of taxes that are supposed to be used for clean and safe roads, but the government no longer takes care of that, they just take your money and run.

The weather along with the cultural, economnical and political situation is the main reason why many germans consider leaving the country actually. We are not THAT stiff as others might portay us really, but when your whole surroundings are so depressing sooner or later you become a little dark yourself.

I have friends in the Netherlands and everytime I visit them it's only three hours to drive to a neigbour country but it's like another world, much more upbeat and overall much better quality of life there, if only I'd speak the language and could find a job there I'd move there in a heartbeat. The weather is shit there too and houses are fucking expensive over there, but the people are so much nicer and don't get me started on dutch women, they are insanely hot.

Germans also have this thing wich I so hate, it's whenever you criticise something and address the problems and issues in the country they are like "oh but look to Africa they have it much worse, we shall not complain" - as if Africa should be the standard for Europe to look up to, that's just insane and it speaks volumes about the mindset of the german people, no progression, no striving, just comtemplating the ashes instead of carrying on the fire. Africa might have it worse but at least those people have dignity. I've been there three times, so much poverty but those people walk tall regardless. In Germany you must almost be ashamed to have goals or success, that's the mindset and I hate it.

Oh and did I mention germans can be long winded in their answers? This post shall prove it to you, lol...nevermind just had to rant a little bit, feel better now. Greetings to Mexico!

I have lived abroad for 20 years now. I am thinking about heading back to Liverpool one of these days. Who knows?

The problem with Europe, and not just Germany, is that everyone is supposed to pretend that a constant supply of alcohol to the human body is a good thing.

So you've got an entire population drinking daily enough booze to take down an elephant and pressured to "act normal" so they can show everyone how well they hold their liqour.

Laughter is a sign of intoxication, so can't let that show, and then the next day they wake up already at a disadvantage to humor due to being half sick and hungover until they do it all again.

Get rid of the booze and humanity will return.
