I would really like to find alternatives to surgery please. I have read several recent endocrine studies where people with hyperparathyroid were given vitamin d therapy and no ones calcium went up. My calcium level did not go up even when my vitamin d level was above the high normal range. I know that has been a concern in the past but from what I have read it is not the case.
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 19278005 the thing is , if your parathyroid hormone levels are raised just because of vit d deficiency then they will go down if you supplement ( a lot of vit d supplements come with calcium )but if it's because of primary over activity of the parathyroid gland then you need to know whast your calcium is calcium is really important and can cause lots of vague niggly symptoms ( like the other poster mentioned ) if it's too high you can only seriously consider your options if you know exactly what's going on and if you know the primary problem is your parathyroid glands then surgery may well be the best on offer i don't know of any alternatives if that is the problem have you seen a medical herbalist? might be worth a chat Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33968488 When you've an overactive parathyroid gland, your body suppresses it's vitamin D level as a self-protective measure, because Vit D helps the gut wall to absorb more calcium from food - hence increasing (dangerously) the level of calcium in the blood even further.
