Good perspective here from SocGen's currency analyst Sebastien Galy. Between the Italian election uncertainty and the UK downgrade, it's safe to expect another dollar pop:

The combination of a UK downgrade and a uncertain Italian elections are the fuel for a run of stop losses on long GBPUSD and EURUSD at the opening of the markets in Asia. CFTC positioning had already shown another large scale profit taking on USD shorts and we are likely in the process of neutralizing these positions in favour of JPY shorts (see report for those that asked to be on the cftc mailing list). It is the stuff of a strange golden age of fx, under invested, over achieving for no great reason, a telltale of a greater instability in the global economy.

As for the Italian election results, first exit polling should be coming in prior to the open of the NY market on Monday.

when compared against a basket of currencies, mostly the Euro and smaller nations. Not against BRICS nation as of Sept. 2012. So the index is showing the Euro is tanking --- again. but large corporations have placed their long bets on the dollar crashing -- hence the index moving against US stocks.

I saw a trendline of the stock market highs since the mid 1990's. Through both the tech market bubble and the housing bubble the stock market reached this trendline and then finally broke. The DOW is currently close to reaching the trendline, suggesting it will bust once again.

After all, with all the credit and funny money they have pumped into the financials over the past 4-5 years, those stock market gains are fictional gains (fantasy valuations) unless they are sold at the high prices and then re-bought at bottom prices.

Yes it is. It's all about the billions and trillions of dollars that can be safely parked somewhere in some investment in some particular country and in some currency.

That is usually the US Bond market but people are smart enough to know that all major Governments are bankrupt, including the US government; they are run by self serving crooked fools.

The US stock market and Currency should be stable and rise for a few more years then look the fuck out.

Err, and notice that a stronger dollar at the bottom allows them to buy up just a little bit more at the bottom prices.
