No one is keeping nothing from us, NASA and other space agencies and observatories got all the good equipment and they can track it the best. But there are thousands of backyard astronomers who do this stuff as a hobby, and they are pretty good at it. They have the coordinates for this comet and are watching/tracking it so even if someone was keeping something from us these people would let the truth out.

Don't tell me backyard astronomers are idiot either because they don't have the equipment like NASA. You are the same people who thought the mayans and Sumerians were predicting the end of the world with their astronomical data. They were wrong with with their thoughts of the end of days but were spot on with their data and they didn't even have telescopes. So these backyard astronomers are legit.

That's because you apparently don't understand that those satellites are not designed to search for small, dim, near earth asteroids, nor are they trying to. We are only now beginning to design and launch satellites to try to cover that blind spot ( [link to www.asc-csa.gc.ca] ), but woe is me, we don't have complete coverage so according to you we should just give up and stop searching. Do you not realize how idiotic that is? It's not all or nothing.

We can detect some asteroids that size, but not all. That is not an excuse to not try to search for them. I realize that people like you are uncomfortable with things like this that don't fit neatly into such all or nothing paradigms, which is why you react poorly to it.

LOL, you again, trying to suggest that a two-body simulation is a superior calculation for determining a potential impact compared to a series of monte carlo solutions integrated using the gravity of all the planets. Classic Dunning-Kruger. It's amazing though; that particular two-body java applet comes with a warning on the JPL site that specifically says not to use it for planetary encounter circumstances, yet you still don't seem to get it.

Actually scientists for thousands of years now, since the time of Eratosthenes, have known that the world was round. In fact, Eratosthenes even measured its circumference. It was the uneducated class who continued to hold onto superstitions about the shape of the world, scholars knew the truth because they had studied the empirical data and understood it. Some things never change, some idiots continue to believe it's flat. Just fewer than before, thankfully, but in some ways the public understanding of science is still very poor.
