Mmm. Your response to the question "you know tracking or trailing scent dogs" should have been, "tracking and trailing dogs aren't scent dogs. But that's ok. Just checking. It's a hard answer to find if you haven't worked them.
Up that high, sun shining down, and you probably know what direct sunlight does to scent, as well as wind, time, and hard surface.
A "scent" dog would have been looking for a "cone" of scent that follows out behind a person, not skin cells. The cone which would have been long gone at that height.
The location of the body looked like it was in an enclosed tank....above the line of the dogs scent. The only thing they'd have had was after the gasses started seeping and they would have gone to the top and away on the wind, above the scent of the dog.
Scent dogs also aren't looking for a particular scent, just human, so any people up there would have caused a false alarm. Same with inside the hotel.
You probably already know that though.
Guess we'll have to agree to disagree on the difficulty of having any degree of accuracy at that location.
