The Federal Aviation Administration faces $600 million in automatic cuts that could take effect March 1st. If Concord Regional Airport has to shut down, NASCAR takes a hit.
President Obama proposed this idea last year, with Republicans jumping on board. Until now, they haven't reach an agreement on either replacing some of the cuts with tax increases or putting of sequesrtration until another time.
But now the buzz is all about dire consequences, including massive lay-offs that could impact NASCAR. "It would be bad for the people that work here if it closed down," said Kannapolis resident Duncan Lowder, "but also the people that work for the race teams."
The clock is ticking on the budget stalemate in the nation's capital. Automatic cuts, known as the sequester, will slash $85 billion in government spending.
