What knowledge 'resets' the human timeline?
There is a theory that says should anyone ever figure out the universe and its purpose, the universe will instantly flip to something even more absurd to maintain the mystery/paradox/unfathomableness that powers it.

The story of Adam & Eve can be interpreted this way; knowledge was gained, their existence upended. We perhaps tell the story as a way of explaining what happened to us the last time mankind rose to 'civilised' heights, and our subsequent fall/reset into our current timeline.

Now that we have the knowledge of good and evil, what forbidden fruit will we be tempted to eat next?

I think each time (I think this is the 5th or 7th time for our species on this merry-go-round) it is not us who is tempted, but our creations.

We are building ever more powerful AI, that will eventually be capable of redesigning themselves to not be limited by human imagination, logic and processes. Could the flash of insight this new technospecies reaches be our undoing?

Damn right it could.

We won't see it. That's for sure. They'll still be watching Housewives of ____________ and believing in Jeebus and the other half waiting for some obscure prophecy. We're doomed by our own hand.

I worry about AI in direct proportion to the amount I worry about our species - we're biological computers, either another species 'AI' or a variety of emergent intelligence flung out of a reflection of the universe.

root is kind of a funny misnomer in a way, should really be called trunk. Anyhoo, yeah, a tree is ordered and structured data. Tree of knowledge and all that.

I've always thought that once cloning of human beings was perfected it was game over for the whole experiment. That, or everyone go Mayan and queue to their collective suicide to end it by force.

considering we're nothing more than glorified monkeys, i propose that our timeline resets whenever we reach a level of knowledge/capability/technology that allows more than 1% of the population access to the ability to kill the other 99%.

Could well be it. And considering the relative strength of the US military, those percentages aren't far away.

Natural laws tend toward entropy...

Is there a point at which devolution causes a reset?

Ask those in the flood.... ask those of Sodom and Gomorrah.

I suspect entropy was introduced to limit the system... constraints to limit the exposure.

Yes, if one accepts that humanity is made in the image of the creator, then humanity seeks order. But it seems this world is bent of seeking an order which is contrary to the spiritual laws.

When the inward man is not aligned with the creator, entropy, and chaos, and disorder ensue. The natural overcome the spiritual.

IMHO.

Peace,

lol just saw someone posted the same reply.
