It's rife alright. An animal rights group have been saying there is horse in the food chain for the past three years so christ knows how long it's been going on. I believe it was only a few suppliers intentionally using horse in place of beef but the supermarkets that make billions of dollars and stomp competition out of business with their low pricing are equally responsible, yet you see no rage directed at them, as the media is bought and paid for by the highest bidder. I would love to see Tesco et all crucified for this, but it'll never happen.

The Czech veterinary authority says it has detected horse meat in meat balls labeled as beef and pork imported to the country by Sweden's furniture retailer giant Ikea.
The State Veterinary Administration says the one-kilogram packs of the frozen meat balls were made in Sweden to be sold in Ikea's furniture stores that also offer typical Swedish food.

Re: Czech inspectors find horse meat in meatballs made in Sweden for IKEA
why do they want us eating horse meat unknowingly?
it's not like the horses say to themselves 'lets all jump into the pot, for these humans to enjoy.
oh noes
somebody took some decisions and acted upon them
what is more curious, howcome it is in so many countries/companies at once?

Nothing wrong with selling horse meat, just say so.

FYI, many times restaurants will serve horse labeled as beef tenderloin, because it tastes much the same and is way cheaper.

It's been going on for ages. The supermarkets sourced unbelievably cheap beef product and never thought to question it.

The problem isn't health related, unless the horses come back positive for Bute. The problem is misleading the consumer for a quick buck. These billionaire multi-nationals should be held to account.

Because it's magically delicious, but people get all watery eyed when they think about poor ponies ending up on their plate.

Adding meat of horses, which have been fed on nothing but sunlight, grass and oats, is a free upgrade of your food.

But I guess people will only eat cows that were bred and crammed in a hangar and fed monsato shite... because cows are dumb and ugly.

They may well have known but my point is that they should have been testing their product. They are the ones who sell it to the consumer so are ultimately responsible for ensuring it fits its description. Beef lasagne made with beef is not 'as described'.

Ugh!!

Glad I cook from scratch.

Never eat any meat if you cannot easily identify the species.
