Re: BREAKING - VATICAN IN CRISIS: Just Days before Electing New Pope, Britian's Cardinal O'Brien Resigns! Benedict Changes Conclave Rules
Confession with a priest is simply a means to give up your sins to God. The priest acts as a conduit in order to facilitate this transfer, and relieve you of the burden that you carry with you. This is not to say that you cannot ask God for forgiveness on your own, through the solitude of prayer, but confessing them to a priest is helpful.

NO! Confession is probably the best form of social control ever invented. Every priest gets to learn all the communities' secrets. That leaves the door open for extortion at the lowest level all the way to rape and sodomy of children.

Dirty, disgusting religion.

Re: BREAKING - VATICAN IN CRISIS: Just Days before Electing New Pope, Britian's Cardinal O'Brien Resigns! Benedict Changes Conclave Rules
And now since we are at GLP we should look at this from another point of view. According to the church all this rumours of depravation and economic mismanagement are attempts to influence the result of the Conclave.
As a direct result of this accusations Cardinal O'brien will not be part of the Conclave which will mean the UK church will have no say on whom will be the next Pope. Cardinal O'brien could be considered a conservative member of the Conclave and his vote wouldn't have gone to a candidate who was a reformer. He is of the ilk of the salient Pope, steady as it goes. Surely he wouldn't have voted for a non-European as next Pope when a said non-European I mean westerner.

This is the Conclave that is meant to choose Peter the Roman the last Pope, the false prophet, the shepherd that will witness the destruction of the Rome and the church. Evil might be working behind the scenes and then again it might all be bullshit.

Still interesting times and a process well worth keeping an eye on.

Thought provoking...

Absolutely - and the best thing to do is keep an open mind and don't make assumptions. Wait until this plays out and make your own determinations based on the facts. Suffice it to say, all of this happening now is just flat out weird.

Re: BREAKING - VATICAN IN CRISIS: Just Days before Electing New Pope, Britian's Cardinal O'Brien Resigns! Benedict Changes Conclave Rules
I am Catholic (born, raised, and still kickin'), but I have looked into as many other Christian faiths as I could. I even joined the Mormon religion and became a priest (entry level) for a short time in Japan. After searching far and wide, I have not really found another Christian religion that fits me as well as Catholicism. Would you mind reading a thread I posted here a while back and give me your assessment? I don't see it as negating the Catholic church as much as validating it. Tell me what you think:

Thread: The Last True Church Of Jesus Christ On Earth Is One Of The Heart

Also, I'm not sure if you have ever heard this before, but the definition of a priest is a man for others, according to Pope John Paul II. You clearly fit the bill, my friend :-)
 Quoting: Rising Son

I looked over the thread you posted and I agree -- I think that the Church is not as closed and exclusive as it once was, Vatican II changed a lot of that. I do believe Vatican II was necessary; what I rebel against are that many of the reforms were taken too far. That is one thing I feel called to address.

I actually have not heard that definition before, but I am quite honored to be viewed in that fashion. :-)

About three months ago, I came back home to the church, by going to my first confession for twenty something years,
it totally verified Matthew 16:16-19 for me, and I am enormously thankful men like you become priests and minister this sacrament to us.
It is a magnificent, awesome thing, my heart can hardly comprehend it...the feeling of liberation is pure joy.
 Quoting: K.Kool

Excellent! I was also away from the Church for a time, due to theological differences, but once I made my way back I knew she was always there, waiting for me. I have felt since I was a small child that this is what I am supposed to do, and -- if God wills -- it will happen.

Simply asking a Priest in confession for forgiveness WILL NOT absolve one from what they did (murder for instance) until they have paid for that sin! God has a mechanism for that (Romans 13)! Remember this as all Priests should!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30075865

Kudos to you for choosing to enter the church as a priest, despite the negative attention it has received. I hope you can change the culture of corruption, deceit, and immorality that has plagued the church for so long. One man can make a difference, do not be disheartened :-)
 Quoting: Rising Son

Thank you. I will do whatever God calls me to do -- I feel primarily called to address some of the liberalism that has crept into the Church after Vatican II, and specifically to preach on the importance of confession. Only 6% of practicing Catholics go to confession, and that is a statistic that really concerns me.
 Quoting: Ohio Leopard

You should join The Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter in Denton, NE. I know many priests there and they are godly men.

Is that the group which practices the Tridentine Mass?

Ratzinger has pedo cases building against him, from what I hear. Now all Napoleon just needs to crown himself. And that is how France kicked them Catholics out of their country.

That is a great assumption on your part, because it goes against the Catholic vow of silence that all priests practice, and it ignores the fact that there is no evidence of rampant extortion of parishioners in the Catholic Church using their confessions as blackmail.

I had my theological differences too, and followed the well-trodden path towards enlightenment, gnosticism, etc.

Needless to say, it is a path that goes nowhere except round and round in the circles they so love. I am amazed at the changes being brought about in me, since my return,
the state of consciousness I wanted for so long to acquire from within me, is now bestowed upon me from above.
The sacraments really are food and medicine for the soul!

The fact that men continue to be called to be priests and respond from their hearts and minds is not only incredible from the world's view, but are a sure sign of God's presence on the Earth, in these days of so much darkness and estrangement from God.

Am I the only one who shakes my head in amazement every time someone calls the pope "holy father"?? Ummmm if that's holy, the Lord help us all! And what about this verse in the Bible??

Matthew 23:9
And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.

Not only do they call him father, but they have the audacity to put HOLY in front of it! BLASPHEMY!!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 4990480

If you ever called anyone teacher in your life then you are a blasphemer as well.... since Jesus also said to call no one teacher.

Maybe if you really studied scripture and not memorized verses with a shallow understanding, and ask for the blind hatred in your heart to be taken away, you would realize how rediculous your statement really is.

A majority of Cathoic priests do not take a vow of poverty. Only certain orders (like Dominicans), but certainly not diocesean priests (which is what most people think of when they think of a Catholic priest).

The amount of misinformation that many take for face value just to hold onto their hatred in their hardened hearts is amazing... but not surprising. That is why you are here on earth, to have the heardened heart fixed, and where you hold your hatred is actually the key to helping you overcome it.

Peace.

Then I pose to you a question. When did God Himself tell you that your doctrine/church/Catholicism was correct? Just want a straightforward answer.
1 Timothy 3:16 KJV
And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

Isaiah 9:6 KJV
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Mark 16:16 KJV
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Acts 2:38 KJV
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Romans 8:6-9 KJV
6) For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
7) Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
8) So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
9) But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

Matthew 15:8-9 KJV
8) This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.

Re: BREAKING - VATICAN IN CRISIS: Just Days before Electing New Pope, Britian's Cardinal O'Brien Resigns! Benedict Changes Conclave Rules

BLASPHEMY!!

Hebrews 9:15-28 KJV
And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.

[16] For where a testament is , there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.

[17] For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.

[18] Whereupon neither the first testament was dedicated without blood.

[19] For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people,

[20] Saying, This is the blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you.

[21] Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the ministry.

[22] And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

[23] It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.

[24] For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:

[25] Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others;

[26] For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.

[27] And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

[28] So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

1 Timothy 2:5 KJV
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

Mark 2:10 KJV
But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,)

9) But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

Acts 5:29 KJV
Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

Then I pose to you a question. When did God Himself tell you that your doctrine/church/Catholicism was correct? Just want a straightforward answer.
 Quoting: cmoG530

God Himself has never told me that.

However, Jesus did say to Peter what is quoted in Matthew 16:18-19. Since Jesus is God...what else am I supposed to do? Ignore what he said?
