The fence is not to collect more snow, it is to have the wind put what is there into snowdrifts, which melt a 2x the speed as loosely packed snow. You then plant trees on the sunny side of the stream that is holding water back. A few decades later no more flash floods and the trees are the snow fences and the other green areas are grass lands. That would be a smart move if this is to become normal in that you get enough water to gave two crops a year. Canada has lots of peat moss if you are looking for a way to loosen up sandy soil so roots can take hold. Basically the area the size of the NWT is available with variable shipping costs. Lake Winnipeg and river barges or NAFTA Superway for getting to the destination. How do the snowfalls of this season compare to the summer where floods lasted until the end of August? The Missouri flooded worse than the Mississippi and later and from a different snowpac than each other. |

Quoting: FubarMan Tire-chains are as staple as a gun-rack in a truck in Alberta. Makes the 'cheaper trucks' better than an hi dollar one. Both driving wheels and one steering chain. If it is a 4x4 on the wheels carrying the heaviest load get the 1st two. For cars why not draw up some plans to use metal like the use in banding things but have them them studded with replacements easy when removed. That steel is so stiff a pattern for each combination of wheel and tire (mags only)could be pre-made and putting them on would only need a small clamp to secure them tight. One on will get you unstuck, 5 on the ride is smoother and you can safely travel at interstate speed on any road. It's fine to stay at home because the roads are bad. Never a good idea to be there because you are 'stranded'. Chains and a plow on your truck will have you begging for bad weather and the ones you can help will be better prepared the next time a similar forecast comes your way. The Alverta weather has been mild and stable, not sure why the snow is there, you must be getting pulses of Pacific air and it is meeting what snow you already have on the ground. Spoke too soon, it was cold air after all. [link to www.theweathernetwork.com] |

Plus if Southwest Public Service only has 1600 customers out they're doing one helluva job. Shit if that weather was on my side of the grid here in DFW with just a 1/4 of that shit with the wind and ice we'd have 200K out easy. Also on side note being a Texas Tech Alum may I say fuck Amarillo let it freeze and go to hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quoting: TexasDeck Dallas-Ft Worth got hit with a foot of snow a few years ago. It was amazing that they never cancelled school early. Everybody went to get kids from school at normal hours but when we got home, nobody could get onto the driveway. Too much snow/ice on the driveway so everybody left cars parked halfway into the driveway. Lol. Just amazing... |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 22887638 Who cares. People down there have no where to go anyways. When weather patterns bring snow to a region that typically doesnt ever get snow... much less 17 inches in blizzard conditions... I find it interesting... its cool you dont. thanks for the bump... It's definitely interesting. Never heard of that much snow in the 30 some odd years I've lived here. That's... unheard of. We don't build houses for super cold and blizzards. That's just... wrong.. LOL Don't here in Central Texas we are just getting major wind. It's like a freaking hurricane out there. Someone's trash can got lodged up under the back of my car this morning. I have NO idea whose it is nor where it came from.. LOL. Guess I have a new trash can? 45 minutes S.East of Dallas the winds have really picked up,had a large tree limb come down on the chain-link fence this afternoon. hubby got the thing sawed up and in the firebox with 30 minutes or so but we still have another limb hanging over the damn powerline that feeds the shop from the same tree. If it comes down it will rip that line from the transformer and off the side of the shop building, called the electric co about having the line taken down today but they cant get out ta my place until tommorow. Hubby went back to work around 6pm and want be back home for another 3 weeks or so(truck driver)so gonna pay someone else ta take that damn tree down(its dead anyway)from the drought. Told hubby ta get it down like 4 months ago. |

Corresponding changes in sunspot brightness and the strength of molecular absorption lines were also seen. This trend was seen to continue in observations of the first sunspots of the new solar Cycle 24, and extrapolating a linear fit to this trend would lead to only half the number of spots in Cycle 24 compared to Cycle 23, and imply virtually no sunspots in Cycle 25. We examined synoptic observations from the NSO Kitt Peak Vacuum Telescope and initially (with 4000 spots) found a change in sunspot brightness which roughly agreed with the infrared observations. A more detailed examination (with 13,000 spots) of both spot brightness and line-of-sight magnetic flux reveals that the relationship of the sunspot magnetic fields with spot brightness and size remain constant during the solar cycle. There are only small temporal variations in the spot brightness, size, and line-of-sight flux seen in this larger sample. Because of the apparent disagreement between the two data sets, we discuss how the infrared spectral line provides a uniquely direct measurement of the magnetic fields in sunspots' [link to arxiv.org] and the Paper [link to www.leif.org] . All bases considered is what we do,no? lol, 1,600 homes equates to no more than 7,000 people. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 22887638 Who cares. People down there have no where to go anyways. Put your 'basement down even a few feet' that will anchor it to the ground and have the 2nd flood be what the main floor looks like in a place that does have a basement. There are track kits for quads and cars if that stuff become business as normal and the 2nd flood is level with the snow drifts. 1st floor would be the 'strong part' and the 'veranda' above it or as the 3rd floor.
