I start every day with a fresh cup of coffee...

lets start the new day off at GLP with Coffee Doom

gaah

Coffee is already high enough... im sure this will not bode well on the already expensive brew... as far as price and quantity availability...

Strike a deal with the farmers so they can get back to work!

WHO EATS AT APPLEBEES?

McDonalds has fresher food than APPLEBEES.

Seriously, Applebees get a truck every night... guess what's on that truck...

Rolling racks, filed with trays, filled with plates of almost everything on the menu...

READY FOR THE MICROWAVE...

All the kitchen does at Applebees does is re-heat the food that came in already cooked the night before.

Never eat at Applebees.

We should send all the used coffee grounds back, they can then compost those and save on fertilizer costs. Savings go to the growers.

This^

Farmers protesting means that crops (in this case trees)
go unattended... and care of coffee trees is a delicate and time consuming endeavor... the less time spent farming... the worse condition the farms will become...

and due to last years already below average yield of coffee beans...

this doesnt bode well.

Just returned home and made another pot of delicious Columbian bean coffee.
Actually got these beans at Costco--Kirkland Brand-- $11.00 for a 2 lb. bag.

Colombia has been struggling with a fungus called leaf rust on its production for a number of years.

There are other countries that have declared agricultural states of national emergency because of this same fungus.

Those countries would be Honduras, Guatemala and Costa Rica. El Salvador and Nicaragua are also badly affected.

There is a video in the following link that talks about it:

Oops, I forgot to log in.

I remember doing a thread last year about tiny spider mites that became a threat to the Colombian crop. Never heard too much more about it after that.

This fungus impacts trees and their ability to produce over several years. I've read that if they don't get it under control and aggressively manage it, many coffee farms will be destroyed.

Coffee is King in my garden.

I dump the used grounds around my tomato and pepper plants all summer long. They love it. It's full of nitrogen and it conditions the soil. Not to mention that the earthworms go gaga over the moist grounds. The worms grow plump and produce the best worm castings. I get the giant tomatoes from the castings.

I'm not a coffee snob. I love Maxwell House and Folger's.

i use the grounds for my garden too :)

I usually drink Maxwell House's 'Daily Brew' its almost hogwash lol but its cheap and i go through it like mad.
i do add a lil freshly ground whole bean to it to give it an awesome taste.

but i honestly manage about 50 cups per day...

which isnt a whole lot... cos a cup of coffee is technically 6 ounces... and my coffee mug holds 3 cups if full to the brim...

so 10 mugs is 30 cups... and i do that before my first 5 waking hours lol

Quit cigarettes Nov. 15th 2011, cold turkey. Quit coffee 2 weeks ago. Now my mission is to lose weight.

I smoked and drank coffee for over 30 years... Coffee was easier to quit, but the withdrawal headaches were killer!

a pack a day smoker = $2,737.50 savings each year.
a 12 cup pot of coffee a day = $300.00 a year.

The cost of living increase offset any "true savings" so I'm not any farther ahead financially.

I really don't miss the smokes now, too early to say that with the coffee though....
