Re: What is the best 4Gb video card from nvidia?
I recommend the 670, it's the best in price/performance, and the performance is sky high. It only takes 2 slots, so you can buy two if you really feel the need (I don't, and I'm playing at 2560 x 1440 resolution).

The best 670 cards are from ASUS, these cards run very cool and are extremely quiet! They're actually quiter at full bore than most cards at idle!

You can get the 4GB version if you like, but there is actually little point, 2 GB is plenty.

Re: What is the best 4Gb video card from nvidia?
This is not hard.

The best card is the GTX 690. IF that is too expensive get the 680, which is fine too.

I suppose you could try a SLI solution but if you're asking about this that might be a little complicated.

Here is a list of the GTX 680s on Newegg.

[link to www.newegg.com]

They are the best cards that are under 500, the 690 costing 1000. They also only have 2gb of memory.

I like to get the one with the most good reviews. the EVGA looks good, but I know Gigabyte makes good ones too, and I have a Zotec which works fine.

If 500 is your budget for a card just get a GTX 680 from the list I posted. A 590 is overkill. It's something like two 580s taped together.

I agree with this ... a GTX 680 is the best bang for your $$$ as long as you have the power supply to keep it happy and good air movement. As for nvidia vs. amd/ATI ... I've been using nvidia since I bought my first Geforce 4600ti ... I've have both brands in my tower and I've lost 1 nvidia card to overclocking compared to a handful from the other guys. It's like a GM vs. Ford kinda thing I guess ... to each their own.

This, all of it. The only issue against the Asus is that the Top version of the cards were clocked a bit too high, which can cause issues. Newegg even removed the top card from sale because of this. It should have been fixed now, if not you have to upgrade the firmware on the card, which is a hassle, but personally I still went for the standard 670 and I'm more than happy.

[link to www.newegg.com]

The 670 makes the 680 pointless as the difference is minuscule. The only competition is then the 690 at a considerably higher price.

Also there is really no need for 4gb unless you plan on playing Skyrim with the HD/graphics mods maxed out. That is the only game I know that needs that much and you have to mod it to create the demand. Arma 3 should not be that demanding. No standard game will provide much visual improvement to a 4gb user over a 2gb user really, they have to cater to the mass market anyhow.

The advantage of 4gb over 2 was really bigger in the last gen as today's graphics ram is GDDR5, which is much faster than the 3's we had previously. Other advances also means the differences between the various cards within a generation is less too so today you can really play any game with any current gen card with satisfactory graphics.

The final argument against investing in 4g goes the same route as it goes against two cards. By the time games that really need 4gb of ram comes out, or need two cards, new cards with even better stuff packed on it, that can do all that and more on one card, will have come out. It is actually better to buy a new card from just under the top class every three years instead of investing in one or two from the top shelf you hope to run for 5.

The big advantage of 4gb which still remains is a steady frame rate above 100+, which you need to invest into a good monitor to take full pleasure of, but really the human eye wont notice much difference unless you run two different systems side by side.

[link to www.godlikeproductions.com]
What the hell is that? Is this blond woman someone I should recognize? Is this a subtle hidden message telling us we are all pussy ass liberal communists? toungerofl

Anyway, buy 670 from Asus. Even when I run my machine hard, games maxed out, the noise levels don't go up. I have finally managed to build a completely silent build, and I really didn't try hard. I squeezed it into a m-atx with little space and bad airflow access, a sound card blocks that, and still it never gets hotter than 70 C on the GPU. The 670 uses little power compared to my old 560ti that is for sure. Less power=less heat=noise win.

I was playing AC3 with a friend the other day and he was constantly getting up and going over to the machine to admire the silence. And indeed, it is more likely you will hear a coil whining on the Seasonic PSU than to hear any of the fans doing the cooling.

Btw. I'm running a Z77 board with an i7 3770K with the basic Asus TPU overclock, which is cooled by Intel's new Liquid Cooling solution rts2011lc, and Kingston's HyperX 10 year Anniversary Limited Edition 1,5V version, Samsung 840 Pro SSD's and that inside a Fractal Design Define Mini. The whole system is powered by a Seasonic 460W Fanless Platinum only. Oh yes and Asus STX sound card.
