An American cares because the EU, like the current American regime, cares little for the people, but much for the banking elite. It extends beyond borders.
It's really quite simple.

What does he have in mind when he talks like that ? It's hard to say what they mean. Maybe they are buying time or maybe they have a unified world currency up their sleeve. When it comes to debt very few cities or countries ever paid it off in history. They tend to just collapse and pay 10 cents on the dollar to all the bondholders. Don't buy Government or State bonds from anywhere in the world :}
